Carina POV
Teddy had offered to stay for the remainder of the afternoon seeing as we'd still not had an update from Maya or any of the team.
I began making dinner for us all, wanting to keep everything as normal as possible for Elva despite the fact I felt sick to my stomach.
"Mama when's mommy coming home?" Elva asked me for the tenth time that hour, hovering close by me.
"I told you Elva I don't know," I said firmly, beginning to lose patience with her a little.
"She's been ages mama," she whined, wrapping her arms around my legs.
"Bambina I know, why don't you go play with your toys while mama makes dinner?" I suggested.
"But you're in here," she whined.
I needed to move to the other side of the kitchen but Elva had hold of my leg tightly.
"Elva please let go of mama," I said seriously, trying to prise her arms from around me.
"B-but mama," she stuttered.
"Elva," I warned.
"Hey sweetie, I think Allison's missing you in there," Teddy said, appearing in the kitchen.
Elva looked over into the lounge, silently debating with herself.
"Okay," she said quietly, finally releasing my leg.
"I nearly lost it with here then," I admitted when she was out of earshot.
"I know. You're allowed to be stressed Carina," Teddy assured me, leaning back against the wall.
"I never know what to say to make it better for her," I sighed frustratedly.
"You just need to be there. There's nothing else you can do," she said.
"Mama Allison likes my fire truck," Elva said, running in the kitchen excitedly.
"That's good bambina," I replied a lot more calmly.
Teddy's phone began to ring.
"Miranda hi," she answered.
"I'm with Carina now," I heard, making my heart stop.
I stood, frozen to the spot, with the casserole dish in my hands.
"Okay,"
"Okay I'll bring her in,"
I could feel the air leaving my body.
"Thank you Bailey, bye,"
She'd hung up.
She turned to look right at me.
"We need to go to the hospital," she said seriously.
I lost all grip of the dish in my hands. It fell straight to the floor and shattered, small pieces and food flying everywhere. The dish missed Elva by about two inches.
"Mama!" She screamed.
I snapped out of the fog for a moment, looking down at my little girl who I'd almost hurt.
I crouched down urgently and checked her.
"B-bambina I'm sorry," I stuttered.
"Let mama look,"
"Did any get you?" I panicked, examining her for any slight cut or scratch.
"Mama's sorry bambina," I repeated.
