Carina POV
It's Saturday and Andrea is coming over tonight for dinner, I'm incredibly nervous. Not only am I worried about his reaction but Elva is unpredictable too, we can never fully tell how she will respond to certain situations.
I walked into the lounge to see Maya playing on the floor with her. They were doing a jigsaw.
"It goes there mommy," Elva pointed.
"What here?" Maya replied as she pretended to put the piece in the wrong place.
"No mommy there," Elva laughed.
I stood watching them and smiled.
"Maya, I'm just going to go and get a few things for tonight. Do you want anything?" I asked.
She turned around to face me.
"Could you get some strawberries and some of those yoghurts Elvie likes?" She asked.
"Si bellina, I'll put them on the list,"
"Mama you going?" Elva asked.
"Just to the store bambina, you wanna come?"
She thought about it for a second before shaking her head.
"Okay, I won't be long," I told them as I put on my jacket and grabbed my keys.
Maya POV.
I left Elva finishing the jigsaw and went to grab her a snack.
I chopped up some fruit in a bowl and poured her a drink as well as making myself a coffee.
I put it in front of her and sat myself down on the sofa watching her play.
Every now and again she'd stop to have a piece of fruit.
I took a picture of her and sent it to Andy.
*Oh how my Saturdays have changed*
My phone quickly buzzed with her reply.
*It suits you mama*
I smiled and put my phone away.
"Elvie?"
She stopped what she was doing and looked up at me.
"Come sit with mommy, I wanna talk to you," I said, patting the seat beside me.
She climbed up and I put my coffee down.
"There's somebody coming over for dinner tonight," I told her.
Her head tilted in confusion.
"Andy?" She smiled.
"No bubba but similar name. He's called Andrea but some people call him Andrew. He's your mama's brother," I explained.
She looked at me blankly.
"Brother?" She asked.
"Yeah, you know your mama is from Italy? She lived there with her dad and her brother Andrew lived here with their mom, Andrew is a doctor too," I told her.
"Nice?" She asked me, her eyebrows furrowed a little.
"He's very nice and he's funny too,"
She nodded but didn't speak.
"Are you okay sweetheart?" I asked, softly tucking her hair behind her ear.
"You stay?" She asked.
"I'll be here and Carina will be here the whole time bub," I smiled.
"No hurt?" She asked.
My heart sank.
