"Belle'."

I twisted my neck slightly, licking my bottom lip as I nudged my head deeper into the thin pillow.

"Bella."

The noise continued.

Adjusting my eyes to the single bright light shining from the entrance of my cell, I raised my head slightly to find Axel hovering with a candle lit lamp. Blinking harshly a few times, I swung my legs out from beneath the woolly blanket. I felt a presence linger on the side of my thigh, as I turned carefully to see Rick sound asleep behind me. Switching my gaze between my lover and Axel, I carefully lifted his hand from my skin and tucked it closer to his chest. I found a smile soon make its way onto my face as I watched him so peacefully, wishing he could be the only sight I am blessed with for the rest of my living nights; I placed a soft kiss on his cheek before covering the blanket over him and gathering my combat pants, boots and holster.

"Sorry to wake you." Axel apologised sincerely.

"No, it's fine. I'm glad you did." I smiled weakly towards him as we made our way to the foyer. "Are the group back yet?"

"Not yet- I'm- I'm sure they're fine though." Axel stumbled on his words slightly, trying to remain optimistic.

"Uh- about that- nobody knows about us, yet—"

"Hey, look, you don't gotta worry about me. It's your business, I'll keep quiet till you're both ready." Axel cut in, reassuring me that his honour was still in tact.

I set my holster and boots on the table to put on my combat pants. Axel stared into the far wall whilst I was getting ready and I could see he was grieving as well.

"You're being awfully understanding considering the situation with Carol." I spoke out on the obvious, knowing how close they had become and seeing how much her absence was negatively impacting him.

He turned to look at me as I tucked my white vest top into the waistband of my navy coloured combat pants. "What she-" He struggled to find the right words, if there were any at all, as he pursed his lips together. "I miss her, a lot, but what she did- it ain't right. I can't fault Rick for his decision, y'all knew each other long before I appeared so I know the call would've been like hell to make."

"If you'd known—"

"I would never have let her go through with it—"

"I know you wouldn't, but I wasn't gonna ask you that." I stated as I crouched down to tie up the laces of my boots. "I was gonna ask, if you'd known what she did before she left, would you have gone with her?"

My question gave him a lot to think over, but I could tell he already knew the answer. "I would have." He nodded whilst letting out a deep sigh. "I love her, an you can't trump that."

Once we were ready, we got to work. Axel had agreed to help me, before the sun dawned, to gather up the bodies of the fallen from behind the block and take them out to start a bomb fire. Hershel and I realised last night that there was too many to burn within the perimeter of the prison and with the urgency to do them all in one go to reduce the risk of spreading the virus, it made sense to take them out into the forest.
