Rick's POV

"Park her up here." I ordered towards Merle, causing him to pull over to the edge of the road. I looked in the side mirror, watching Daryl park his bike behind us, as we all came to a stand still. "We'll walk the rest of the way."

The Governor came to the prison like we knew he would, tore down our front gates, blasted our towers, and that was the worst of it. Hershel had taken Beth, Carl and Judith out into the woods to keep them safe while the rest of us lurked within the shadows, using every aspect of our new home to our advantage. Bella's plan paid off, it worked. We ran him and his soldiers out; took back control, but when we went after them, we found their vehicles abandoned with many of the community laying dead on the ground and the rest making meals of them. There was one survivor though.

Karen.

She told us how the Governor opened fire on everyone in a fit of rage. His own people, he murdered without hesitation, and all because they didn't want to fight.

So much blood shed, all at the hands of one sick mind.

Myself, Daryl, Merle and Shane were the nominated few to rescue Bella and Andrea from their captivity. Everyone else stayed behind to guard the prison in case anyone returned for a second assassination attempt.

As we moved through the trees, heading towards the front gates of the town, a sudden spray of bullets were shot in our direction. I grabbed Karen by the shoulders and pulled her down with me behind one of the stray vehicles. Instantly, I lifted my rifle over the hood and fired back towards the giant tyres the Governor's people were hidden behind.

"Tyreese!" Karen yelled, pushing herself up from behind the shield. "It's me. Don't—"

"Get down!" Shane whisper shouted aggressively, pulling her back to cover.

"Karen?" A man shouted back in question.

Karen looked towards me, giving me a nod of confidence that the people behind the barricade wouldn't harm her.

"Karen, are you okay?" The voice continued to call out.

"I'm fine!" She responded, moving out from behind the car and raising her hands above her head.

Shane was about to pull her back again, but I stopped him with the back of my hand, as I peered over the top of the hood.

"Where's the Governor?" The man questioned.

"He fired on everyone." Karen stated painfully. "He killed them all."

A moment of silence took over, and I could sense the people defending what was left of the community were taken back by the revelation. But time wasn't something we could afford to spare; Bella was my one priority.

"Why are you with them?" The man continued to question.

"They- they saved me!" Karen answered.

I looked down to the ground for a moment, weighing over my options. Letting a deep sigh escape my lips, I threw the strap of the gun around my shoulder and looked over to Daryl.
