This place is beautiful, but ridiculous at the same time. How this community has managed to survive so far with such an incompetent leader is beyond my understanding. Gregory is a basic example of a poor leader. He is completely infatuated with himself and ensuring his own status as leader, that he doesn't properly lead. That will have to change.
Unless there's something else that I'm not seeing. Maybe there is a reason I haven't yet considered as to why they are still standing...
"Belle'."
I looked over my left shoulder to see Shane.
"Hey." I replied, adjusting my position on the steps to the main building as he sat down next to me.
"Everyone was wonderin' where you went." He said softly.
"Needed some air- it's all well an good Paul saying Gregory wants this an that, but... I don't know if we should even risk doin' a deal with them. Somethin' else is going on here. It has to be." I expressed, leaning back and resting my elbows on the step above the one I was sat on.
"Well, Rick seems to think we need it. So does Michonne." He stated.
I furrowed my eyebrows, turning to look at him. "An are you jus' now starting to listen to Rick, or might this have something to do with my samurai of a best friend, huh?"
He laughed inwardly, running a hand over his head. "Listen, I wanted to talk to you about it- we both did, but it jus' happened."
"Just?"
"Last night." He ran his tongue across his lower lip.
"Hey- well, at least this one isn't already married." I shot up with sarcasm dripping from each word.
"Damn, okay- okay, that's fair." He grinned, leaning back and mimicking my posture.
"In all seriousness, I know you care about her." He locked eyes with me, shocked that I, or anyone, had even noticed. As if it wasn't obvious. "I think it's great."
"Yeah?"
"Yeah." I nodded with a rising smile. "The three of us- after everything we went through- we'll always have a lot of love there. If you're both happy, an together, then why shouldn't it be great? You deserve happiness, Shane, you do. You both do."
"She's, uh-" He looked over his shoulder, making sure nobody was in hearing range and that the mansion doors were closed. "-she's a hell of a woman, an yeah- yeah, she makes me happy."
The revelation was like a softly beating drum to my ears; I couldn't be happier for them.
"They're back!"
"I'll get Gregory!"
A commotion towards the front gate caused Shane and I to rise from the steps, as one of the men from Hilltop ran past us and inside. Three people emerged from the front gates, two men and one woman; all of them looking pained beyond belief.
