The next morning I had woken up even earlier from the comfort of the spare bedroom that Hershel and his family were lending to me while I recovered. Truth be told, I always preferred a tree branch and a blanket. Crazy, I know. Who in their right mind would opt for a tree over a comfortable bed? Well, I would. But that's just me.

Being the first and only one up, I decided to make the most of my freedom before getting pressed to rest by near enough everyone. Maggie had leant me some more clothes after I told her about my strict exercise regime, which I'm trying very hard not to let get diminished in this new world. I had slipped on the fresh pair of black nylon shorts with a matching top and began working out to the side of the house on some of the short grass. Having an exercise regime was always a very important part of my day-to-day life. Every morning I started with a workout, whether it was martial arts, shadow punching, core strength, just about anything and everything you can think of. I always worked on building up my strength and not just because I loved to, but because I needed to. The Army had very strict conditions and I always tried to exceed the typical standard set.

I was in the middle of doing some jumping knee strikes, jumping up from my right leg and using my left to do the strike and rebuild the strength after my injury, when a sour face came around the corner.

"Pretty sure that ain't too wise..." Shane echoed with sarcasm, resting himself against the fencing on the other side of me.

"Wanna tell me what got you in such a mood?" I questioned, raising my eyebrows at him as I started doing skaters to focus on my balance. Finding a slight serge in pain as I transitioned to my left leg but nonetheless, I kept pushing myself, knowing my body and its limits.

This group hasn't yet realised just how much I do observe, which is probably a good thing for now since I've been known to freak people out with it. It's not just about observing but the deduction made from it. It was a skill my regiment in the armed forces always wanted out on the field in battle. I knew people before they knew themselves, I decrypted codes within seconds, I read the game and calculated how to win before it even began. They called me their secret weapon but when it came to a zombie apocalypse, that was one game I didn't know how to play. My brain acts in a different way to the average human. I don't know why but I've always been this way. I process things differently, I take everything in and I store it away until I need it.

Shane rose one corner of his mouth slightly whilst staring into the ground, clearly debating on his choices of response, "I'm just uh, I'm concerned." He began, pushing himself off the fence and closer to me. "How'd we know we ain't searchin' for a ghost in the woods?"

I understood the point he was making. It's not something anyone wants to think about but at this point, we have to calculate and we have to be realistic. That doesn't mean we can hold onto hope for Sophia at the same time, we all want to find her alive and okay. I took a pause on my skaters, running a hand back through the few strands of hair that had fallen out of the ponytail. "We don't." I sighed, shrugging my shoulders lightly. "But we gotta try, right? Carol needs to find her daughter, dead or alive. You know you wouldn't give up if it was Carl."
