Bella's POV
As soon as the sky began to lighten, drawing into the next morning, we began our journey. We had managed to pick up on some tracks, we weren't sure whose they were but it was a start. To Merle, he had saved my life, but to me, it was more than that. He could have left with his brother, but he didn't. Instead, he risked himself for me. He has learnt the value of life itself, as well as the value of family. Proving that nobody is too far gone, unless they choose to be.
My current condition slowed us down, but we didn't stop. I felt fragile and the wound itself was still throbbing, but the pain was bearable. Merle had patched me up quite well considering; Hershel had toughened it out to teach him a thing or two while we were at the prison and surprisingly, the stitching was fairly neat.
After following tracks for several hours, we found ourselves in an abandoned Country Club, called Pine Vista.
"Found anythin' your style?" Merle called out from the other side of the large room.
"Shockingly, yes." I replied, as I made my way behind a shelving unit.
We had been exploring the various sections of the club since we arrived. There was a bar, kitchen, lounge area and a clothes store, which is where we currently were. A place that only the high and mighty would come to in normal times, not that it got them very far.
I got changed into my new attire, readjusting the straps of my holster and placing the Beretta in the waistband of my new jeans. Sorting through my old clothes, I checked through the pockets, coming to find a piece of folded paper. Knowing exactly what it was, I smiled to myself before putting it somewhere safe.
But there was something else.
Withdrawing my hand from the last pocket, I pulled out a thin chained necklace.
Looking down to find Kai with something hanging from his mouth, I knelt down to him and held out my hands. With a firm nod to release what he had found, he gently placed the object in my palms. A silver chain with a plaque attached to it, and on the plaque was an engraved Infinity symbol. Something perfect for Judith.
Releasing a deep breath, I placed the chain into my back pocket, knowing that one day I would be able to give it to her. A symbol of my love and protection for the miniature Grimes.
Behind another rail of clothes, I could see the reflection of my legs. Moving around a couple of stands, I found the mirror had been freshly wiped down of any dirt and dust. I looked tired, worn out, but at least now I had blood free clothes on me. I was now wearing a black short sleeved top, with black mom jeans and a matching belt; it was good to wear darker clothes when you were out here. It makes it easier to stay hidden and keep your head down.
Narrowing my eyes to the floor, I crouched down to look over a couple of pieces that had been chucked in front of the mirror.
"These are Beth's." I exclaimed loudly, picking up a couple of old, dirt coated shirts and heading back to Merle. "She was here. That means she's alive."
