Chapter 19: Beside The Dying Fire
Kadyn's POV

With every minute that passes, I begin to get more and more worried about Glenn. None of the four had returned, and it was already dark outside. The sun has disappeared, and the moon has taken its place, casting in eerie glow over the farm.

Everything is quiet, and it should feel peaceful. But to me, something just isn't quite right, and I can't figure out what it is. And it isn't just because Glenn and the others haven't returned.

Maggie and Joey sit on the couch, not saying anything, just holding hands and waiting. I pace nervously back and forth in front of them, my arms crossed.

Maggie reaches out and touches my arm when I pass her. I stop and look at her, biting my lip.

"He's okay." She reassures me softly. I nod in response, but continue to pace.

The sound of the front door opening makes my heart leap. Daryl walks in first, his crossbow slung over his shoulder. I'm relieved to see Glenn following him.

I make my way over to Glenn, and hug him tightly. Glenn wraps his arms around me, and I immediately begin to calm down. He's safe. My Glenn is safe.

"Rick and Shane ain't back?" Daryl asks, looking around the room.

"No." Lori replies, biting her nails.

"We heard a shot." Daryl says.

"Maybe they found Randall." Says Lori, standing up.

"We found him." Daryl shrugs his crossbow higher up on his shoulder.

"Is he back in the shed?" Patricia asks, crossing her arms.

"He was a walker." Daryl tells her.

"Did you find the walker that bit him?" Hershel asks from across the room.

"Uh, weird thing is.. he wasn't bit." Glenn replies, biting his lower lip. I look up at him in confusion, furrowing my eyebrows. Glenn looks back at me, and I can see the worry in his eyes. He looked freaked out.

"His neck was broke." Daryl finishes.

"So he fought back?" Patricia asks.

"Thing is, Shane and Randall's tracks were right on top of each other." Daryl continues. "And Shane ain't no tracker. So he didn't come up behind him. They were together."

"Would you please go back out there and find Rick and Shane and find out what on earth is going on?" Lori asks, stepping towards Daryl.

"You got it." Daryl replies.

"Thank you." Lori sighs, running a hand through her dark, wavy hair.

I let out a breath of relief into Glenn's side, and he rubs my back. "I told you I'd be back." He murmurs, gently kissing the top of my head.

"I know," I reply, my voice slightly muffled by his jacket.

"Hey, guys.." I hear Daryl whisper yell from the porch. Me, Glenn, and Andrea immediately go out onto the porch. In the distance, a huge herd of walkers were making their way towards the farmhouse.

"Kill the lights." Hershel whispers.

"I'll get the guns." Andrea announces.

"They might just pass like the herd on the highway. Should we go inside?" Glenn asks worriedly.

"Not unless there's a tunnel downstairs that I don't know about." Daryl says. "Herd that size'll rip the house down."

"Carl's gone." Lori appears on the porch with a scared and shocked expression.
