Chapter 36: Welcome To The Tombs
Kadyn's POVI carry an armful of ammunition to the trunk of one of the cars in the courtyard. We're packing up the cars to leave the prison. Well, that's not really the plan. When the governor comes, we'll ambush him.
"You're one of us." I overhear Rick telling Michonne. She's staying with us, even after being held hostage and taken to the governor. She also agreed to the attack plan.
It's all nerve-wracking really. We have no idea when the Governor is coming, but we know he's coming. Baylee easily sets a bag of her belongings into the back seat of the car.
I smile friendlily at her, and she nervously returns the gesture.
"We'll be alright." I nod at her, slamming the trunk shut. She nods in reply and walks over to me.
"Is that a ring?" She asks, her blue eyes wide in excitement and wonder.
I smile and nod, extending my hand for her to see. Baylee stares at the diamond engagement ring in fascination.
"I'm happy for you," She declares, hugging me around the waist.
"Thank you," I reply, hugging her back. Then, Baylee excuses herself and walks over to the rest of the group.
"Ready for this?" I hear Glenn's voice behind me. Glenn wraps his arms around me from behind and rests his chin on my shoulder.
"Ready as I'll ever be." I reply, reaching up a hand to stroke his hair. Glenn leans forward and presses his lips to my cheek. Then, he reaches out his hand to mine. I take his hand gratefully and he intertwines our fingers.
"Let's go see what Rick's saying." Glenn suggests, and I walk with him over to the rest of the group.
"They could come any minute now. I say we move out into the woods back there, while the fighters stay here and wait." Rick announces.
Of course, I'll be one of the fighters. Glenn squeezes my hand encouragingly. I adjust the shoulder strap of my gun anxiously.
"Let's go!" Rick declares, and everyone starts to move around.
"Baylee, go with Carl and Hershel. Keep Judith with you." I tell the young girl. She nods and heads over to the three waiting by one of the cars.
Glenn and I rush back to the rest of the group and wait.
//
I watch in awe as the guard tower explodes after being shot with a grenade launcher. The Governor and his people have arrived. I wait in a crouch with the others for the signal to attack.
Trucks storm the prison yard, shooting at the prison. The spikes we laid earlier take out the tires on the trucks, and a moderate sized army of people jump out. The Governor's army starts trooping up the gravel walkway.
The Governor and a few of his people have entered the prison. After finding it apparently empty, they exit. That's when Rick gives us the signal to attack.
I jump up and start running, aiming my gun and shooting at people. Adrenaline rushes through my body, and my heart pounds in my ears.
We defend the prison as best as we can, and the Governor's people leave, shortly followed by the governor himself.
I rush to where Baylee and the others are, immediately hugging her and making sure she is alright.
Carl had apparently shot a teenage boy while in hiding. Hershel and Rick talk about this, and I hear Rick getting on to Carl, who argues right back.
