Chapter 33 : Prey
[ Kadyn's POV ]I shudder; a warm breath tickles the back of my neck and I realize that I am awake. I blink the sleep out of my eyes and gently stroke the arm wrapped firmly around my stomach.
Glenn snores from behind me, and I sigh contentedly. He's finally back. We're back. The fight, or whatever it was we had going on, is over.
I've been through so much with Glenn within these few years. I remember when he first asked me to be his girlfriend; we were so close already it would've been stupid of me to disagree on his proposal.
I remember sleeping in Glenn's tent during the first few weeks at the Atlanta camp. We'd joke around and laugh, and talk away all our problems. There were no secrets between the two of us. We'd tell each other everything. We were best friends.
I remember the day the RV broke down on that old jammed up highway. Shane had grabbed Glenn and I and pushed us under a car together, and Glenn held onto me and kept me safe.
The same arms that held me under the car tighten around my stomach, and I'm pulled back into Glenn's chest. A pair of lips meet the skin on my shoulder and I smile. I manage to roll over and face Glenn.
"Good morning," Glenn yawns, kissing my cheek.
"Good morning," I reply, snuggling into his chest, savoring the warmth of his body.
"How are you?" Glenn asks on a more serious note, resting his chin on the top of my head.
"I can't describe it really." I murmur, placing my hand on the curve of his side.
"Wanna try?" Glenn asks, rubbing a circular pattern on the small of my back.
"I don't know what to feel anymore." I confess with a sigh.
"What do you mean?" Glenn inquires.
"I mean, sometimes I feel too much, and sometimes I just feel nothing. Sometimes I just want it to end." My voice cracks a little.
"You've come a long way. Don't give up." Glenn reassures me, kissing the top of my head gently.
"I'm trying." I whisper, closing my eyes.
"And you're doing a damn good job of it, Sugar." Glenn says, and my lips crack a smile at his words.
"I love you, ya know." I tilt my chin up and rest it in the crook of Glenn's neck.
"And I love you." Glenn replies.
I swing my legs off of the side of the mattress and stand up, stretching my arms over my head. I feel a gentle hand touch my waist and I turn around to face Glenn who is now sitting upright.
Glenn wraps his arms around my waist and leans his forehead on my stomach. I run my fingers through his black hair.
"Do you remember that one night at the camp," Glenn murmurs. "when the walkers attacked and you slept in my tent because you were scared?"
"Mhm, and we just sat there crying and hugging.."
"Yeah.. That night, when you were asleep, I just held you and I thought to myself, 'I am in love with this girl,'." Glenn says, looking up at me with a small smile.
I smile and kiss the top of his head. "I love you; always."
Glenn stands up and hugs me, and I melt into his arms. His heartbeat soothes me, and his warm arms engulf my body.
"Breakfast?" Glenn suggests, pulling away.
"Yeah," I agree, taking his hand. We walk out of our cell to the common room where a few people were already gathered.
