Chapter 6 : TS-19
This chapter is rated R, but this is the only warning you get. Haha. Just go with it.
Our group stands in the bright light for a moment before running inside.
"Daryl, you cover the back." I hear Shane call.
"Hello? Hello?" Rick calls as we run inside the CDC building.
"Close those doors. Watch for walkers." Dale says.
We have made it into the lobby, which is completely empty. I walk around with my bow out, loaded and ready. "Hello?" I ask.
The sound of a gun cocking makes me jump. I spin around to find a man standing on a staircase, a rifle in his hands.
"Anybody infected?" He yells down to us.
Rick steps forward. "One of our group was. He didn't make it."
"Why are you here? What do you want?" The man asks.
"A chance." Rick replies.
"That's asking an awful lot these days." The man says.
"I know." Rick says.
The man looks at everyone, deciding our fate. "You all submit to a blood test. That's the price of admission." He says.
"We can do that." Rick nods his head, and the man lowers his gun. I lower my bow cautiously, seeing this man wasn't a threat at the moment.
"You got stuff to bring in, you do it now. Once this door closes it stays closed." He says, but we have already gotten our stuff, so we follow him into an elevator.
"VI, seal the main entrance. Kill the power up here." The man says once we are all in the elevator. He wasn't talking to anyone I could see - someone named VI. I wonder who they were?
"Rick Grimes." Rick says, holding out his hand for the man to shake. But the man just looks away.
"Dr. Edwin Jenner." He replies.
"Doctors always go around packing heat like that?" Daryl asks from behind Dr. Jenner.
"There were plenty left lying around. I familiarized myself. But you look harmless enough." Then he turns to Carl. "Except you, I'll have to keep my eye on you." He says, winking at him. Carl smiles.
The rest of us stay quiet. Our group took up the whole space of the elevator, so it was pretty squished. My back was pressed against Glenn's chest, not on purpose, and his back was pressed up against the metal wall. The elevator's atmosphere was cold and metallic-like. Glenn rubs my arms from behind me, warming me up a little bit.
Eventually, the doors open, and Jenner leads us down a hallway.
"Are we underground?" Carol asks from beside me.
"Are you claustrophobic?" Jenner asks.
"A little."
"Try not to think about it." Jenner replies.
We enter a large darkened room. "VI, bring up the lights in the big room." Jenner calls, and the room lights up. "Welcome to Zone 5." Jenner says, standing in front of us all.
"Where is everybody? The other doctors, the staff?" I ask.
"I'm it. It's just me here." Jenner answers me.
"What about the person you were speaking with? VI?" Lori asks.
"VI, say hello to our guests. Tell them... Welcome." Jenner calls.
