Chapter 22: Walk With Me
Kadyn's POVGlenn and I watch the sun setting behind the prison from the courtyard. The sky turns orange, and then a brilliant pink.
With our hands intertwined, we watch as the last light of day slowly fades.
I turn to Glenn, admiring him as he watches the sky. The sinking sun highlights his face and his skin glows. The light reflects on his soft brown eyes, and his general expression is calm and content. He looks so peaceful.
I try to imagine what our lives would be like if we were together before the apocalypse. Would we be the same, or different?
My thoughts are cut off when Glenn's voice breaks the silence.
"Are you ready to go back?" He asks, looking at me.
"We can if you want." I shrug. I raise my hand to his forehead and smooth back a loose strand of dark hair.
The corners of Glenn's lips turn up in a lazy, playful smirk. He leans forward and gently kisses my lips.
"I love you, Kadyn." He whispers when we pull apart.
"I love you, too, Glenn." I say softly, my hand resting on the nape of his neck.
We stand up and walk back to the prison together.
//
I enter Glenn and I's cell, holding onto the curtain we had hung. A pair of arms wrap around me from behind, and I jump in surprise.
"Relax, it's me." Glenn chuckles, giving my neck a small kiss.
"Remember when you used to scare me all the time?" I ask, walking into the cell.
"Yeah," Glenn smiles. He follows me and sits on the bed.
I stand in front of him and place my hand on his cheek. I don't say anything, but then crawl onto the bed with him.
After a few restless minutes of talking, we fall asleep.
//
I wake up the next morning wrapped up in Glenn's arms. I hear voices outside the cell. Everyone was waking up, or already awake. I hear Glenn lightly snore behind me, and can't help but smile.
For once, we are safe.
I carefully undo myself from his grip and pull my shirt back over my tank top. I pull on my boots and stand up.
"Where are you?" I hear Glenn mumble. I turn to find him with his eyes still closed, his hand feeling around on the bed for me.
"I'm already up." I smile.
Glenn opens his eyes and looks at me. "Oh."
"I'm going to go eat breakfast. I'll meet you out there." I say, leaning over the bed and kissing his lips.
"Mhm," Glenn yawns, rolling over.
I walk out of the cell and to the big room. I've been calling it the common room, and it's seemed to fit. Everyone eats in there, we cook in there, and do laundry in there. It's the common room.
I fix myself some of the food we got from the prisoners, and sit down at one of the stone tables.
Maggie sits down in front of me with a plate. "Morning." She smiles.
"Morning," I reply, smiling back at her.
We start to eat together, casually chatting.
I soon push back my plate, waiting for Maggie to finish eating. When she does finish, she takes my plate and stacks it on top of hers.
