Chapter 44: Too Far Gone
Kadyn's POV

"I could use a vacation," Glenn says with a sigh as a lazy smile curls his lips up. "Get away, just for a weekend."

The quarantine cell block is quiet. The sun streams through the windows, illuminating the dreary cells. Today has been peaceful. The remaining sick, including Glenn, are recuperating.

"Yeah," I agree with Glenn, smiling down at him. A vacation would be nice. God, I can't even imagine a sunny beach now, not after what this world has been through. It's all just a fantasy now.

Glenn takes my hand in his and runs the pad of his thumb over the diamond ring on my finger. He lets out a soft hum of contentment and looks back up into my eyes, the same lazy smile still plastered on his lips.

"You know, our anniversary is coming up." Glenn muses, his dark eyes shining brightly up at me.

"It is?" I ask with a laugh.

"One of these days." Glenn replies, the corners of his eyes crinkling up as he laughs with me.

"Have you ever been to Amicalola Falls? Tallest waterfall in Georgia." I state. Oh, what I would give to go back there with Glenn.

"Mm, no." Glenn shakes his head, his eyes gazing into mine intently.

"My dad took me there when I was little. When we were up there, all the way at the top looking down, I felt like I flying." I tell him, a grin tugging at my lips at the thought of the memory.

"I'll go load the station wagon." Glenn jokes, causing me to laugh.

We sit for a moment, giggling like children together. These are the moments I cherish the most; the ones where it's just Glenn and I, laughing together and smiling. I could live in these moments forever.

"Baylee asked how you were doing." I tell Glenn.

"Tell her I'm doing fine." Glenn smiles. "She never came to visit me." He pouts.

"She was in the administration building while you were basically dying in here." I reply, and Glenn rolls his eyes playfully.

"Where is that kid, anyways?" Glenn asks curiously.

"She's with Michonne and Hershel. Went to gather more leaves to make tea for sick people like yourself." I inform him.

Glenn nods his head tiredly. "Haven't seen her in a while."

"I'm gonna go get you some water." I announce, standing to my feet.

"I can get it," Glenn protests, whining a little.

"But I'm doing it. I'll be right back." I assure my husband, pressing my lips to his softly.

I head out of the quarantine cell block to the courtyard where the gallons of water are kept. I had the option to just get some out of the common room, but I could do with the fresh air.

A sudden movement beyond the fence catches my eye. Squinting, I realize it's a tank.

Wait.. A tank?-

An explosion knocks me to the ground, and before I can grab my gun, fallen rubble and debris from the destroyed guard tower pin me down.

Thankfully, nothing is broken. But, I hear the snarling of walkers and start to panic. I struggle to push away the heavy piece of metal that had fallen on me.

Looking around wildly, I recognize a few figures running out of the prison.

"Daryl!" I scream, glancing at the approaching walkers.
