Chapter 25 - Hounded
I wake up slowly and blink the sleep out of my eyes. Glenn's warm breath hits my forehead as light snores escape him.
I place my hand on his chest and cuddle closer to him, pressing my nose to his skin.
Glenn stops snoring, and I hear him yawn.
"Morning, Lovely." Glenn whispers, kissing the top of my head softly.
"Morning," I reply, looking up at him.
"Ready for the run?" Glenn asks, brushing a loose piece of hair out of my face.
"Ready as I'll ever be." I reply, closing my eyes.
"Sounds like it," Glenn says playfully.
I open my eyes to look at him, a small smile starting to form on my face.
//
Glenn and I make our way into the common room for breakfast, where everyone is much quieter than usual.
I fix myself a plate and sit down at a table. Glenn follows and sits across from me.
I look at the food on my plate, but don't eat. I don't even feel hungry. I set the plastic fork down on the table and rest my chin on my hand.
Glenn notices and touches my arm. "You need to eat." He says in a gentle but serious tone, his chocolate brown eyes making contact with my blue ones.
I sigh, picking up the fork again. I take a bite, and eventually my hunger kicks in.
I look up at Glenn and blow air in his face just to annoy him. Glenn looks up with an expression that asks "Why?" but I just shrug and continue eating.
"You, Kadyn," he says before standing up from the table. "you're something else." He smiles.
"Love you, too." I reply. I hand him my plate and he takes it to the wash bin.
//
"Do we have everything?" I ask Glenn as we start up a car for the run.
"I think so." Glenn replies, closing the car door.
We announce to the rest of the group of our departure, and then get in the car to leave.
Carl opens the front gates for us as we leave. I wave goodbye to him, and he waves back.
We both lost important people on the same day. I know what he's going through, just as he knows what I'm dealing with. It's a good thing to have each other's backs and at least try to make each other happy.
As Glenn drives, I pull out a map and examine it.
"Where to?" Glenn asks.
"Um, I'm not sure, but maybe we should head to that one town? I think it has a store where we could find some baby supplies." I suggest.
"Got it." Glenn replies. He takes one hand off the steering wheel and laces our fingers together. I smile and squeeze his hand lightly.
//
"What the hell?!" Glenn groans in frustration as the car rolls to a stop.
"Gas tank empty?" I ask, biting my lip.
"Yeah." Glenn replies, resting his forehead on the steering wheel.
"But we just filled it up a few days ago!" I exclaim.
"I know, I know." Glenn leans up to look out the window. "We passed a gas station about a mile back."
"Okay." I reply, reaching into the back seat and grabbing Glenn's travel backpack.
