Chapter 11: Chupacabra
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

I wake up early the next morning in Maggie's bed. She was still asleep, so I carefully get out of bed to leave. I decide to leave her a note on the dresser. I spot a small piece of paper, and find a pencil on the dresser. I write:

Thanks for letting me stay last night. :) And thanks for all of your help last night :) I got up early and went down to camp. Maybe I'll see Glenn. Wish me luck!
- Kadyn

I left the note on the dresser and quietly left, after pulling on my boots. I tiptoe down the stairs and through the kitchen. I finally make it outside, and quietly slip through the door. I breathe in the fresh, morning air as I make my way to the campsite.

I notice Carol doing chores, and decide to help her, so I make my way over to the line of laundry. I pick up a shirt, and pin it up to the line.

"Morning," I say softly to her. The others must still be asleep.

"Good morning." She replies, giving me a small smile. Carol was still very upset about her little girl. I didn't dare to bring her up at all.

I help pin up some more laundry, as Lori emerges from her tent. She has a guilty look on her face, and I suspect it's about what I got her at the pharmacy.

"Oh, I should've gotten up to help you guys." Lori says.

"You must have needed the sleep." I reply to her, pinning up a pair of jeans.

"You feeling alright?" Carol asks, but Lori doesn't respond. She just starts to pin up clothes to the line. ignoring Carol's question.

As Carol begins to talk to Lori, I wander off to the rest of the group, who are gathered by a pickup truck. Rick has laid out a map across the hood of the pickup. Then I remember - they were going out on a search. I felt like going too, so I stroll on over there to them.

I look at the search grid, along with Shane, Daryl, T-Dog, and Andrea. Rick gives me a smile when I approach. "I'll help." I inform them. Rick nods gratefully.

Then, Jimmy, appears and declares that he would be going as well, stating that "I know the land good."

"What did Hershel say?" Rick asks.

"He said okay." Jimmy replies, and I wonder if that's really what Hershel said.

Shane notices he doesn't have a gun on him. "You'll be useless until you join the group for gun training." He points out flatly.

"You can go with me and T-Dog." Andrea offers Jimmy.

"I'm gonna take a horse and go by myself. I'll be able to see better out over this ridge, here." Daryl says, tracing the line on the map with his finger.

"Today might be the day that you see your "chupacabra"." T-Dog jokes.

"Chupacabra?" Rick asks, chuckling. Dale fills Rick in on the time Daryl said he saw a chupacabra - one of the first stories about himself that he had revealed to the group.

"You believe in a bloodsucking dog?" Rick asks Daryl.

"You believe in dead people walkin' around?" Daryl shoots back.

"Well, Kadyn, that means that you can either go with the group, or yourself. Unless you don't want to go at all." Shane speaks up, looking at me.

I shrug. "If I'm not needed, then I won't go." I reply.

"Thanks for offering, Kadyn." Rick says nicely.

I nod at him with a smile before turning around.
