Chapter 35: This Sorrowful Life
Kadyn's POV
"It's the only way." Rick explains quietly, glancing around. Daryl, Hershel, and I are having some sort of meeting with Rick about The Governor.
The deal was, if Michonne was given as a hostage to the Governor, he wouldn't attack the prison. But, with Michonne saving Glenn and I's asses, I think she deserves to stay with us.
"It's our best shot at saving our lives. We have to do it today. It has to be quiet. " Rick states.
"You got a plan?" Hershel asks.
"We tell her we need to talk. Away from the others." Rick declares.
Daryl shakes his head in disagreement. "It just ain't us, man."
"No. No, it isn't. We do this, we avoid a fight. No one else dies." Rick finishes.
"Okay."
I walk out of the cell block and out to the courtyard with Daryl to help Glenn, Maggie, and Michonne prepare the outer walls for the impending attack.
I take out my knife and start to kill the walkers with Glenn at the fence line while the other three put up the spikes.
"Hey," Glenn smiles over at me, stabbing a walker with a metal rod.
"Hey," I reply, sending a smile back at him.
"How are you?" Glenn asks casually, killing another walker.
"I'm fine." I shrug, pulling my knife out of the skull of a walker before it falls to the ground.
Glenn smiles at me again, and we continue to kill walkers.
Soon, the spikes are finished. Glenn, Maggie, Daryl, Michonne, and I pile into the car and drive back up to the prison. We meet Rick at the courtyard gate, and file out of the car.
"They try to drive up to the gate again, maybe some blown tires will stop them." Maggie tells Rick, glancing back at the finished product of defense.
"That's a good idea." Rick observes, nodding in his head in approval.
"It was Michonne's." Glenn credits Michonne, who smiles a little.
"We don't have to win. We just have to make their getting at us more trouble than it's worth." Michonne announces.

Glenn's POV
I spot Daryl fixing one of the gates leading to the courtyard, and make my way over to him.
"You seen Merle around?" Daryl asks. I shake my head, stuffing my hands in my pockets.
"He say he was sorry yet? Cause he is." Daryl continues. "He's gonna make it right. I'm gonna make him. There's got to be a way. Just needs to be a little forgiveness is all."
"He tied me to a chair, beat me, and threw a walker in the room. Maybe I could call it even. But he-- he took Kadyn to a man who terrorized her, humiliated her. I care more about her than I care about me." I declare. Daryl nods his head in understanding.
Then, I make way out to the courtyard again, this time, alone. I made this decision a long time ago. From the day I met Kadyn, I knew this was the right decision. I walk along the fence line, searching for the female walker I had seen earlier. This is the only way I can get a ring for Kadyn.
I spot her and sigh with relief. Luckily, the corpse is right on the fence. Her hand is almost sticking through the fence, exposing her fingers. I quickly cut them off, and slide the dirty diamond ring off of the bloody stump. I'll have to clean it of course.
I close my eyes and smile to myself. I hold the bloody ring in my hand in triumph. Turning on my heel, I walk back up the gravel pathway to the prison.
Now, I just have to avoid Kadyn and wash this ring off. It shouldn't be too hard. I fill a small bucket with water from the water jugs, and get to work. Pretty soon, the silver ring is sparkling, and almost looks brand new. I slip it into my coat pocket discretely, and pour the dirty water out onto the grass in the courtyard.
I walk back into the prison, entering cell block C. I notice Kadyn and Baylee reading some of Carl's comic books together in our cell.
My heart races just looking at Kadyn. She's so beautiful.. how I ever got lucky enough to call her mine is beyond me. Kadyn looks up and catches me staring at her. Her cheeks flush a light pink color, and she grins at me. I smile back at her.

Kadyn's POV
Glenn takes my hand, lacing our fingers together. We walk together out into one of the courtyards, just as the sun is setting. Rick has returned to the prison, and said something earlier about a meeting.
"Are we starting at this sunset thing again?" I tease, and Glenn laughs, causing black hair to fall into his eyes.
I smile at him and brush the hair out of his forehead, letting my hands rest on his shoulders.
"Carl was looking for you." I tell him.
"He found me." Glenn replies, and I catch a hint of nervousness in his voice. Nervousness? What on earth would he be worried about? I wonder.
"I think we should head over. Rick has something to say." I tell him, rubbing his shoulder gently.
"Uh, just one more thing before that." Glenn says, taking my hands off of his shoulder. He holds my hands in his and moves closer to rest our foreheads together. I notice him reaching his hand into his coat pocket, but don't question it.
He then places something in my hand, and my heart starts beating faster. Oh my God, he didn't. Glenn smiles at me nervously when he sees my shocked expression.
"Yes." I announce, wrapping my arms around his neck happily. Glenn hugs me back just as tight, lifting me off of the ground just slightly.
"I love you, Kadyn." Glenn says, and I feel his smile on my neck.
"I love you too." I reply, kissing his cheek.
I pull back from our embrace and place my hands on his cheeks. Our lips meet, sending a wave of ecstasy through my body. We're married.
Of course, there wouldn't be a wedding or anything; that would be near to impossible. But to know that I am now Glenn's wife makes me happier than any girl in the world.
