Chapter 28 - The Suicide King
| Kadyn's POV |I wake up with my head leaned against the window of the car. Outside, a walker is snarling and banging on my window.
I jump up in surprise, letting out a soft squeal.
Glenn is still asleep in the back seat. I grab my knife and roll down the window a little bit, just enough to stab the walker in the head.
"Babe?" I hear Glenn's groggy voice call out.
"It's fine.. Just a walker." I reassure him.
Glenn sits up quickly, wincing in pain.
"No, no, lay back down," I instruct him, trying to gently push him back. But Glenn doesn't lay down. Instead, he just brushes my hand away.
Hurt, I quietly draw my hand back to me and look out the window into the darkness. Glenn lets out an irritated sigh, which upsets me even more.
Okay, fine. Be that way.
I open the door, and step out into the night.
"Where are you going?" Glenn asks, but I ignore him. "Kadyn!" I shut the door without an answer, and sit down in front of the car, knife in hand.
I notice the woman who was with the group sitting by another car parked on the road. She held a large sword, and at the moment appeared to be sleeping.
"Kadyn!" Someone calls my name, but it's not Glenn. It's Rick.
"Rick! Over here!" I stand up, waving for him.
Rick, Maggie, and Oscar appear out of the woods, coming from the same place Glenn and I came from.
"I need you to come back with us. They've got Daryl." Rick says urgently, and I nod.
I start to turn back to tell Glenn where I was going, but when I look in the car, I see he's already back to sleep.

We reach Woodbury quickly. I take my gun off of safety as we approach the walls.
Once we're in, Rick informs us of the plan.
I notice lights and loud noises at the end of the street in one of the alleys.
That must be where Daryl is.
The group and I run forward as quietly as we can.
"Turn off the lights, I'll throw in the smoke bombs." Rick turns to me, and I nod quickly.
I run back to the power circuits and unplug the line that powered the lights. Immediately the arena-like area goes dark, and the citizens start panicking.
I hear the smoke bomb go off, and before I know it, I feel someone grab the hood of my jacket and pull me along.
I start to panic at first, but then realize it was just Rick. Merle and Daryl lead the way out of the arena.
Several stray walkers now roam the town's streets. I turn around to look back at the destruction, and then I see him.
For a moment, my heart stops in fear. The tall man's figure looms in the smoke, both dark and terrifying.
I run faster, following Daryl.
Walkers are blocking the way we came in. My breath catches in my throat. However, Merle leads us up a hidden set of stairs made of old tires and rubble and we find ourselves on the guard walls.
"You're gonna have to jump!" Merle instructs.
Daryl goes first, and I follow shortly after. I hear Maggie land on her feet behind me, then Rick, and finally Merle.
