Chapter 16: 18 Miles OutKadyn's POV
I let out a sigh as I watch Glenn walk away. He must've lost his confidence in the town earlier. I still love him, no matter what. And he just can't seem to understand that. The group is still gathered at the front of the house, discussing what Randall's fate was going to be.
I walk in the other direction, heading to the horse barn. I wasn't going to go on a ride - that would be stupid of me. I guess I'll just hang around in the barn.
I approach the horse barn with my head down, upset over Glenn. I walk inside, the smell of horses and hay hitting my sense of smell.
I walk slowly down the aisle, admiring the horses in the stalls. I stop at one of the stalls, holding out my hand to a dark black horse. I make a clicking sound with my tongue, and the horse walks over to me.
I stroke her face, running my fingers through her mane. I sigh again, looking around. No one was in here but me.
"He doesn't understand." I murmur to the horse as I rub her ears. "He doesn't understand that I love him no matter what." I rest my arms on the door of the stall, folding my hands.
The horse nudges my arm to encourage me to keep petting her. I smile at her and continue, stroking her cheek.
"Aren't you a pretty girl," I murmur to her, and her ears flick forward at my voice. "Ya know, I'd take you out for a ride. You'd probably like that. But sadly, I'm kinda injured still." I shrug my shoulders gently.
"If he only knew how much I loved him.. Ugh. It's annoying, really." I sigh to myself.
I hum to myself, although the horse flicks both her ears forward to listen.
"Well, I guess I'll go. There ain't much to do in here." I say, giving the horse one last pat.
I walk out of the barn, heading towards the house. Maybe Maggie's around here somewhere. I feel like talking to her.
I find Maggie in the kitchen, cutting up fruit for Beth. She was starting to eat, which was good.
"Hey," I greet her, going into the kitchen.
"Hey. What's up?" Maggie asks, setting the fruit on a tray.
"Eh, the usual. You?"
"Same. Just cuttin' fruit." Maggie smiles.
"So, I need your advice," I say, and Maggie looks up.
"Yeah?"
"Well, I told Glenn I loved him, ya know, and when he got home, he was upset. He lost his confidence at the bar, I think, and he won't talk to me."
Maggie thinks for a minute, and then she replies. "Tell him to man up."
"Man up?"
"Yeah. It's what he needs to do. Well, don't just go tell him 'man up', because then he might get mad." She giggles, and I smile. "But, yeah. Tell him something along the lines of that."
"Thanks, Maggie." I smile.
"No problem." Maggie shrugs, picking up the tray.
"I can take that to her if you want." I tell her, and Maggie smiles at me.
"You sure?"
"Yeah, I got it." I reply, taking the tray from her hands.
I walk to Beth's room, going in quietly. "Hey, Beth. Got you some lunch." I tell her, setting the tray on the side table.
