Chapter 12: Secrets
I walk over to Glenn, who's standing under the shade of a few trees, looking at the barn and biting his lip nervously.
"What's up?" I ask, standing next to him and looking at him. Glenn continues to watch the barn, holding a basket of peaches in his hands.
Glenn glances at me and gives me a tiny smile. "Nothing much. Giving peaches to people." He says, tossing me a peach cheekily. I catch the peach easily in my hands. Blushing, I look down.
"What's on your mind?" I look back up and ask Glenn, although I already knew the answer: He was thinking about the barn and everything that happened last night.
"Oh, just that Hershel has a secret barn of walkers." Glenn says, lowering his voice so that only I can hear. "It's creepy." Glenn insists.
"Shh," I shush him.
"But you know that, right? It's weird."
"Shh," I shush him again, this time more gently. "Just trust me on this, okay?"
"But I suck at lying! I can't even play poker - it's too much like lying!" Glenn replies with a worried expression.
"You have to keep this to yourself. You have to. Please. I promised Maggie." I say, looking into his eyes.
"I'll try." Glenn tells me. "Got to go. See ya." Glenn answers, walking off to T-Dog and Dale to give them fruit.
I look down at the peach in my hands. I sigh and take a small bite out of it. The juicy peach was perfectly sweet and ripe, and cooled my dry tongue. I watch Glenn as he walks around the camp.
Then, my attention turns to the porch, where I spot Maggie, and my stepbrother Joey, talking together. Maggie is laughing - obviously he said something funny.
I smile to myself. They'd be cute together.
Glenn's POV
Once I run out of peaches to give everyone, I set the basket inside the RV. Dale isn't inside, and I need to talk to him.
I hear Lori, Rick, and Shane arguing outside. I step out of the RV, and walk over to them. Apparently, Carl had taken a gun out of the RV, and now he wanted to learn how to use the weapon.
"Do you want to learn?" Shane asks me.
"Um, I'm going to be helping Dale." I make up an excuse.
"Okay then." Rick replies. They all leave to get people to go do target practice, and I wander around the camp in search of Dale.
"I heard you wanted me?" I hear Dale's voice, and turn around. He's standing behind me.
"Erm, yeah. I need to talk to you." I say, and Dale nods.
We move away out of hearing distance of the other survivors.
"So, before you start, is this about Kadyn?" Dale asks, giving me a gentle smile.
"Ah, no.. well, partially." I say.
"Well, spit it out." Dale encourages.
"There's walkers in the barn.. and Lori's pregnant." I blurt.
Dale's eyes widen, and he looks over at the walker filled old barn.
"How do you know?" Dale asks.
"Me and Kadyn were going to the barn, and there were walkers in the barn." I admit to Dale.
"Why were you going there in the first place? - uhm, wait, I probably don't want to hear that answer." Dale says, and I let out a light laugh, looking up at him.
