Chapter 37: 30 Days Without An Accident
[ Kadyn's POV ]I know I probably shouldn't have gone by myself. Glenn will be pissed, but he'll get over it. Besides, it's been a while since I've had some action.
I left the prison on horseback just as the sun was rising to go on a scouting run. I only went to find any available places the group could check out while on supply runs. But I did manage to find a couple of comic books for Carl (and myself).
It's not like I can't take care of myself. Hell, I've survived this long. But of course, Glenn will be worried, even though I told him of my plans last night. Maybe I'll be back at the prison before he wakes up.
I'm riding Flame, the chestnut horse Michonne and I were lucky enough to find and capture a few weeks ago. Ever since then, Michonne and I have been able to go out on quick scouting runs alone.
The number of people inhabiting the prison has increased. The woodbury citizens have made a good addition to our original group, and now we're providing a sanctuary to the people we find while on supply runs. Of course, we don't just let anyone in. They have to answer a few questions, (How many walkers have you killed?; How many people have you killed?; Why?) to gain access to our home.
Soon, the prison gates themselves are in view. I spot Rick on guard, and he starts making his way to open the gates for Flame and I. In perfect timing, we make it through the newly constructed gates without being harmed by the walkers.
Even more walkers appeared after the attack on the prison. However, our fences are back up and our gates are more secure. We also have a fresh supply of water and crops. Daryl even managed to get us some pigs.
I dismount carefully as Carl approaches. My wedding ring sparkles in the sunlight as I retrieve the comic books from my bag.
"I get to read them when you're done." I tell Carl, who smiles and nods as he takes the comics.
"How'd it go?" Rick asks, walking up beside me.
"Usual." I shrug. "No trouble this time."
"Good." Rick says. He takes the reins from my hands and leads Flame back to her pen before I head to the cell block.
The people in the cell block are starting to wake up by the time I enter. Carol was cooking breakfast out in the courtyard.
I walk inside Glenn and I's cell, carefully removing my gun, jacket, and boots before crawling back into bed with him.
Glenn's back is facing me, and I bury my nose in his shoulder. He stirs and yawns before turning around.
"You were gone." He mumbles, wrapping his arms around my torso.
"What are you talking about?" I tease.
"You know. That was dangerous, Kadyn." Glenn sighs.
"Life now is dangerous." I retort.
"You shouldn't have gone." Glenn says, kissing my forehead and opening his eyes to look at me. "And I don't think you should go to the Big Spot today."
"Really?" I hum, looking up at his sleepy face.
"Yeah."
"We have the suits." I reason.
"Yeah, but you don't need to go. You shouldn't." Glenn sighs.
"You know everything's going to work out, right?" I say.
"Right." Glenn replies. "But you're staying, okay?"
"Fine."
