"Laurens, I like you alot" was a term that Y/N had heard her dear husband say all too often when he was intoxicated, and whenever he was talking about his... friends. "Are you going to stay in tonight love?" Y/N asked and rubbed Alexanders shoulder.
"Im afraid I cannot. Lauren's and I have plans. Just the two of us, having a catch-up. This reminds me, I have so much work to do before I leave. My dear, I will be back before you even know im gone. I'll be in my office, if you know me you know where I am." He smiles.Y/N let out a sigh as Alexander walked away and shook her head, taking to the bedroom and sitting at her desk. She looked at the small mirror on her desk and let her eyes flicker to the garden view outside the window. "Why do you write like you're running out of time? Why do you always leave like it's what keeps your morals high?"
"Mummy?" Y/N heard a voice from behind her. "I don't want daddy to go out tonight. He said he would teach me how to write..."
"Did he now?" Y/N questioned and picked her 6-year-old son up. "Let's go speak to him about it."Y/N walked down the corridor, her heels clicking violently on the corridor. She knocked on the door to his office and opened it to see him putting on his jacket. "Where do you think you're going?" she questioned and Alexander furrowed his brows, letting out a laugh.
"I already told you. Lauren's and I are going-"
"What about your son? You told him you'd teach him to write tonight. Is Laurens so important that you can't spare a minute away from him to spend with George?"
"Laurens is my friend!" Alexander shouted through gritted teeth.
"And George is your son!!" Y/N shouted.Georges's lip began to tremble as he watched his parents argue. "My love, come here." Y/N sighed sympathetically and held her arms out, in which George ran to her and sniffled. She picked him up once again as he sniffled into her dress. "If you're so keen, then you and John come back here while you teach your son to write, and then once you've done what you promised you would do, he's still there to have a drink with."
"We will be back soon." Alexander mumbled under his breath and Y/N watched as he walked out.
"Shall we go see what birds there are outside today?" Y/N smiled and George nodded. The two of them went outside and Y/N our George down as he ran the path to go to the gardens. Y/N laughed softly and shook her head before running after George, seeing him talking to a bird as soon as she came around the corner. "Do you remember what bird that is?" Y/N asked as she walked over to gorge, placing a hand on his upper back.
"A bluetoot!"
"A bluetit." Y/N laughed at the way he pronounced it, and sat down on a bench beside where George was sat on the floor.About an hour after, when Y/N saw a carriage pull into the gates, she called George inside and stood at the door to greet John. George sat on one of the benches inside the entrance and as John walked into their home, she bowed and kissed his cheek. "It's good to see you again." Y/N smiled and John returned a bigger smile, kissing Y/N on the top of her hand.
"I can say the same." John nodded and turned to Alexander as he kissed Y/N's cheek and the two of them faked a smile.
"Go on." Y/N ushered George to go with John and Alexander. He picked George up and carried him into his office, getting a chair for George and John either side of him. Y/N walked to the ballroom where a grand piano sat in the corner. She made her way over to the piano and lifted her dress as she sat down on the stool, and let her fingers glide over the piano.By the time she'd finished, a few hours had passed and she came to the realisation that she hadn't seen anyone passing by for a while. Confused, she stood up and made her way around the house to see no one was there. "Where are they all?" She whispered as she made her way to Alexander's office, seeing everyone stood outside listening to the door. "What's happening?" She asked the servants, immediately getting shushed. One of the servants grabbed her hand and walked her to the door, getting her to lean against it.
"What is more than friendship? What you just said?" George asked and Alexander laughed with John. "It means, that god has made us a match. But you can't tell anyone. And by that I mean anyone! You tell anyone, both me and Laurens gets in trouble."
"With mother?"
"Yes, but with other people too. They will hurt us."
"Okay... I promise." George asked and Y/N bit her lip as she felt her eyes become wet.
"Everyone back to work." Y/N mumbled and the servants look at her. "Did you not hear me? Back to work!" She cried.Normally, she would treat them like she would treat a friend. But we all turn on friends right? She wiped her tears from around her eyes and let out a loud sob as she walked outside, and towards the woods. She walked, and she walked, until she was lost, and past the marked trees that lead her back to the house. Eventually, somehow Alexander and John found her in the woods and she glared at Alexander.
"Are you okay?" He asked and went to hold Y/N's hands, but she pulled them away.
"Which way is is back to the house?"
"Uh- that way." John pointed and Y/N walked in that direction, away from the two as Alexander tried to speak to Y/N.
"I heard the conversation. I know about everything, if you must know. I'd just like to be alone right now, please. Don't you have something to write down?" She stormed off, ignoring the mud on the bottom of her dress, ignoring the fact that all she could see was red.
Fiery red.
