"'So this is Christmas, and what have we done? Another year over and a new one just begun. And so this is Christmas, I hope you had fun. The near and the dear ones, the old and the young. A very merry Christmas, and a happy New Year. Let's hope it's a good one and without any fear'." Y/N read the letter that billy had left to open on Christmas. Her voice shook and her bottom lip trembled as she felt the guilt of his death wash over her. It's almost like he had written this letter knowing exactly what was going to happen.

Eddie stood up and put an arm around Y/N, to comfort her. As much as he despised Billy, Eddie would always be Y/N's port of call when she needed him. He would drop everything for his former best friend, no matter the situation he or her are in.
"And so this is Christmas" Eddie stated and kissed her on the head as her eyes welled up.
"War is over." Hopper stated with a sorry look on his face.
"For weak and for strong."
"If you want it"
"The rich and the poor ones"
"War is over now."
"The road is so long. And so Merry Christmas for them and for us. For the black and the white flags. Let's stop all the fight." Eddie inhaled a deep breath.

"We're gonna have a very Merry Christmas, and a happy New Year. Let's hope it's a good one without any fear. And so this is Christmas, just think what we've done? Another year over and a new one just begun. And so we'll have a very Merry Christmas and try to have fun with the near and the dear ones, and old and the young." Hopper stated as he ruffled Y/N and Eddies messy hair. Suddenly, a knock was heard at the front door of Y/N's house, and all 3 of them looked towards it in silence. "You expecting anyone?" Hopper questioned and Y/N shook her head.

When he opened the door, Neil and Susan stood by the door with two bags in their hands and a sympathetic look plastered on their faces. "Hello love." Susan greeted in a calm, soft voice. As soon as Y/N tried to smile, the sadness took over and her mouth fell into a frown. Susan quickly put the bag into Neil's hand and pulled Y/N into a tight, motherly hug. As much as she was only Max's biological mother, she was an important motherly figure to Billy and Y/N. "War is over. If you want it. War is over, let us stop the fight."

Neil walked over to Hopper and shook his hand, their hands connecting with a slapping sound. And to Hopper and Y/N's surprise, Neil held his hand out to Eddie who had his hands in his pockets.
"Come on pal, let's end this all here. We've all got given way more than we deserve." Neil said with a sigh and Eddie nodded slowly, his head tipping to the side. The rustle of the sweet packets in his pocket echoed in the silent room, and he took his right hand into Neil's.
"War is over."

The 4 of them sat down at the little table as the record player sung. Susan served the Christmas dinner she had pre-made before the two of them came to see Y/N. In the crossover between the main and dessert, Neil pulled Susan to the side.
"Honey, are we going to give her the other bag?"
"Oh- right. Y/N, we have a gift for you."
"I appreciate that but I don't think gifts are the thing we need to worry about right now." Y/N said with a smile.
"Please- have a look dear." Susan insisted with a smile and Y/N nodded, taking the bag. She looked inside, and felt a bumpy rectangle. Taking it out, it was a frame that Billy had by his bed, unused. However inside it now, was a couple of Polaroids from his bedside drawer.

Y/N teared up once again. "I don't think you understand how much these mean to us. And now it will be the most important thing of my life."
"Oh hun, we do. Max helped choose the photos. We have the rest. A very merry Christmas, and a Happy New Year." Neil and hopper raised their glasses, so Eddie, Y/N and Susan joined in.
Eddie spoke up. "Let's hope it's a good one."
"Without any fear." Hopper nodded.
"Let's try and have a Merry Christmas, and a Happy new year. This is to you baby." Y/N lifted her glass and finished her drink.

The last person to every bond with someone, was Neil. But in a situation like that, how can someone refuse to acknowledge someone so close to someone they've lost?
Anyway, a Merry Christmas. And a happy new year.
