"so how was school today?" derek turned his head to his teenage daughter while the two of them washed some dishes. y/n shrugged at the boring question that she always seemed to hear. "it was ok i guess. nothing special." y/n told her dad. derek wasn't surprised by her answer, for he heard it alot. "hey, so tomorrow are you still coming to the hospital with us." derek tilted his head at y/n who nodded at her father.
sometimes derek and meredith would bring y/n, zola, and bailey to the hospital with them whenever y/n was done with school. zola and bailey would stay at the hospital daycare and y/n would say she's doing her homework, when really she would be wandering around, talking to patients and pretty much doing stuff her parent's wouldn't approve of. like the time when her and her aunt cristina went to the hospital storage room and wrapped her school textbook in band aids.
the next day came quickly and y/n soon found herself at grey-sloan memorial hospital. when she arrived she went to the hospital waiting room and sat in one of the chairs. y/n scrolled through her phone getting a bit bored until she saw her aunt cristina and uncle alex approach her.
"happy wednesday little grey-shep." cristina took a seat next to her. alex laughed as he took the other seat next to y/n. "finally, people i can interact with." y/n sighed in relief. "where are your parents." alex said through a mouthful, he was obviously eating something. "they're in surgery." y/n told him, while she couldn't keep her eyes off of what he was chewing on. "what are you eating?" y/n tilted her head curiously at alex. "cookie. want a bite?" alex pushes his chocolate chip cookie close to y/n's face. y/n chuckled as she pushed the cookie away.
"oh god, im getting paged by my dumb interns. y'know for people who actually graduated medical school, they are painfully incompetent." cristina rolled her eyes. "what about uh, shane ross? i think his name is. he seems pretty good." alex pointed his finger at cristina. "good if you mean desperate for shepherd's attention." cristina laughed and alex chuckled, while y/n just at there confused.
"anyways, i gotta go. see you later tiny-mer." cristina ruffled y/n's hair before she got up and left alex and y/n there. "well i don't have to go for another 20-minutes. we could race wheelchairs in the basement?" alex suggested. y/n's eyes immediately lit up at alex's good idea. y/n was about to respond before she looked up and saw her dad walking towards them.
"hi sweetheart." derek kissed the top of y/n's head. "sorry i'm late, i was finishing up a surgery. hey karev." derek greeted alex, who just nodded his head in response derek. "that's fine. uh, alex and i are gonna go get some lunch. is that ok?" y/n stood up from her chair. "yeah that's fine. hey i'm on my break right now, how about i join you." derek asked while alex and y/n shared a look. the two weren't really going to eat, but they didn't want derek to find out they were racing wheelchairs in the basement corridor--he would not be happy.
