summary: y/n is at home watching a movie with her family, when her aunt amelia comes over and takes her to the mall

it was family movie night at the grey-shepherd household. it was chaotic, to say the least. zola whining at the movie choice, bailey crying and not understanding what was going on, your mom meredith struggling to keep them calm, and your dad derek trying to make popcorn, which he inevitably burned. basically you hated movie night. you all had to watch tangled for the tenth time, since that was zola's favourite movie. you guys were only ten minutes into the movie and your eyes were already rolling. it's not that you didn't love tangled - you did. it's just that you had watched it so many times already, that you no longer had interest in it.

you pulled out your phone and started texting your boyfriend, liam. "let's go to the mall haha i'm bored." he would text you. you looked over to make sure your parents weren't looking. "i can't, i'm stuck here. we're having a family movie night and we're watching tangled. again." you texted him back. "y/n, put your phone away please." your dad turned his head to face you. you put your phone back in your pocket, obviously annoyed and wanted this family event to be over already.

about 15 minutes into the movie, and you just wanted to get out of there. as soon as you thought that, you all heard a knock at the door. "i'll get it!" you quickly jumped up from the couch and ran to the door. you really needed to stretch your legs so you jumped at the opportunity just to answer the door. you opened the door and saw your aunt amelia standing there with a bottle of wine and her purse. "aunt amelia!" you gleamed and gave her a huge hug. she laughed and entered your house, to see derek and meredith, who weren't as happy to see her as you were.

"amy? what are you doing here?" your dad paused the movie and stood up. "well hello to you too." amelia smiled sarcastically. your dad apologized then greeted her with a hug as your mom did the same. "i brought you guys some wine as a welcome into parenthood." amelia handed your dad the bottle of wine as she smiled.

"um, that's nice amy, but we're already parents, and we have been for a while now." derek chuckled. "obviously. you just had a new baby, so that's a gift for entering parenthood, for the third time now." amelia explained as meredith and derek walked away to the kitchen, obviously devising a plan of how to get rid of her.

"so what's going on with you? tell me everything." amelia lightly patted your arm. you laughed at your eager aunt. "nothing much. hey, wanna see my new walls? we just got my room painted." you told her as her smile widened. "of course, you lead the way." you both laughed as you ran up the stairs and into your room. you showed her your new walls, and even a few new decorations you got, which of course she loved.

"and then he grounded me." you finsihed telling your aunt amelia a story on how a couple of weeks ago, your dad got angry at you for staying out with your friends 15 minutes later than you were supposed to. "what!? he actually grounded you for that? he's done way worse stuff." your aunt told you as you nodded. "i know!" you exclaimed and she took a sip of her water that she brought upstairs. "besides it's only 15 minutes. it's not like you were an hour late." she added and you nodded in agreement with her.

your phone dinged as you and your aunt were having another conversation. you picked up your phone to check who texted you, and saw it was your boyfriend liam. "it's liam." you told your aunt amelia. you told her everything about your love life, and even though your parents knew about your boyfriend as well, talking to your aunt amelia was different. you felt as if she understood you more.

"what did he say?" amelia put her water down on you desk. "he said he wants to go to the mall. but i already told him i can't hang out today, because of movie night." you explained to your aunt. she shrugged at you. "well i mean you guys aren't watching the movie anymore. i can take you to the mall if you want." she told you as you lightly sighed. "yeah, but i already hung out with him four times this week. my parents aren't gonna let me go." you plopped onto your bed.

"well." amelia stood up from the desk, then walked towards your bed. "we don't have to tell them that you're meeting liam there." amelia suggested to you. your eyes lit up at amelia's idea. after the two of you decided that you were gonna tell your parents that it was just the two of you going to the mall, you went down to tell them.

you walked over to the kitchen, where you saw your mom cutting vegetables, and your dad washing a few dishes in the sink. you decided to ask your mom, since she was most likely to say yes. "hey mom, can amelia and i go to the mall? we'll only be about two hours." you asked you mom as your dad immediately turned around to look at you. "why are you guys going to the mall?" your dad raised his eyebrow. "um, we're just bored." you told them. derek and meredith eyed each other, then looked back at you. "yeah, you can go. but make that one hour. dinner will be ready soon." derek told you as you agreed.

you and your aunt got into her car, then drove to the mall. liam texted you to meet him at the food court. you and your aunt went inside, then walked over to the food court where you saw your boyfriend standing near taco bell. although you've talked to amelia about liam many times, this is the first time she's actually meeting him.

you and you aunt walked over to liam where you two greeted each other with a hug. you didn't want to kiss him when your aunt was watching, so you settled for a hug instead. "liam, this is my aunt amelia." you introduced the two. they shook hands as amelia smiled. "hey. nice to meet you." amelia told the boy as he smiled back. "it's great to meet you as well. y/n talks about you a lot." liam mentioned as you smiled. it was true. you talked alot about amelia, because she inspired you. she has been through so much, and has worked so hard to get to the point where she is now, and you were very proud of her for that.

"ok, so i'm gonna walk around the mall and you guys can go do whatever. just meet me back here in about 45 minutes." amelia told you, "do you have your phone, just in case i need to contact you?" amelia verified with you as you nodded. you and liam went to a couple of stores and looked around. it's already been forty minutes, so you both decided to get some ice cream to end off your short time together. you got cotton candy and he got birthday cake.

after you got your ice cream, you walked back to the food court and saw your aunt amelia standing in the middle. "oh, there you guys are. i was just about to call you." amelia chuckled as she put her phone back into her pocket. "bye liam. i'll see you on monday." you told him and went in for a kiss. amelia saw this and quickly cleared her throat. "oh um, bye." he said and went in for a hug instead, since you both caught amelia's signal.

after you both said goodbye you and your aunt drove back to your house. "did you have fun?" your aunt asked as you nodded. "yeah, even though it was only an hour. it was still really fun. much better than movie night." you laughed which caused amelia to let out a laugh as well. "thanks aunt amelia." you smiled at her.

she tilted her head at you and smiled as you pulled into the driveway of your house. "of course. and you better throw that away before we get inside." she chuckled referring to your ice cream cone. she didn't want your parents to freak out that you had ice cream before dinner, so you agreed and threw it in the garbage in the front of your house, before the two of you went inside.

"hey guys. we're back." you said as and your aunt entered the house. "just in time." you mom smiled as she put the last dish on the table that she was setting. you and your aunt sat down as you and your family enjoyed dinner together. as the day ended it was time for your aunt to go home. "bye!" you hugged her. "bye sweetheart. don't worry, i'll come visit again soon!" she told you as she kissed your cheek. she said goodbye to your parents, then walked outside to her car. you looked out the window and watched her drive away. you were grateful for your aunt, and for the fun time you both had today.
