"yeah sorry i can't hang out, i'm buried in homework. i hate studying for exams, and to top it all off my math teacher is giving us a study test tomorrow. she thinks it will prepare us, but i just think she's evil." y/n ranted to her friend on the phone as she wrote a math equation down.

exams were just around the corner, and it was that time of year where high school students became frantic. they already struggled to study for the upcoming exams, meanwhile their teacher decided to bury them alive in homework. y/n was working her butt off studying, but she still had a long way to go.

"ok well, i have to get this done so i'll talk to you tomorrow." y/n told her friend before they said goodbye and hung up. y/n didn't feel prepared at all, and the last thing she wanted to do was disappoint her teachers and parents.

"knock, knock." y/n heard someone gently say at her doorway. she finished writing her last note, then looked up where she saw her parents standing there with a banana and a bottle of water. "hi." y/n tried to fake a smiled before putting her focus back at her notebook. as much as she loved her parents, she really wasn't in the mood for any interruptions.

"hey why don't you take a little break? you've been going at it, since you came home from school." y/n's dad link suggested, referring to her studying. amelia placed the banana and water on y/n's desk before placing her comforting hand on y/n's shoulder.

"thanks guys, but i really have to study. i'm literally drowning in homework." y/n sighed at her parents. "y/n, exams are still a week away. you're telling me that you can't even take a break for even like, a minute?" amelia asked her teenage daughter.

"you see, if i take a break," y/n put her hands out as if she was demonstrating. "i'll fail." y/n quipped sarcastically at her parents. amelia internally cursed her self at her daughter's sarcasm--she inherited that from her.

"well why don't you stop for a bit, and we can go outside and toss a ball or something?" link asked as y/n buried her face in her hands, feeling as if she had explained herself more than enough.

"link, she literally just said she doesn't want to take a break. we can't force her, she's a teenager." y/n's mom argued to her dad.

"i'm not forcing her. i just think she'll feel better if she gets some fresh air." link rebutted at amelia.

"yeah, but she doesn't want fresh air."

"i'm not saying that she has to--,"

"guys!" y/n had enough of her parents arguing back and forth when she had much more important things to be doing: aka studying. "ok look, thank you guys so much for the banana but i really have to get this done, ok? i don't want to kick you guys out but...get out." y/n told her parents in the nicest way possible.
