She needed a life.
And not just the radio and her sorority.
Jill Supersonic Redmon was on the hunt for a boyfriend.
While hanging out at the Student Union, she met a cutie ordering at Chipotle. He ordered something healthy, no rice, no cheese, extra chicken in a bowl, no wrap. She was behind him and ordered everything in her burrito, extra cheese, and sour cream.
"That's much too much food," he said, glancing over at her.
She looked around her to make sure he was talking to her. She checked the name on her debit card, made sure it was her name, and that she was still paying for her own food. She was. He had no say so in what she put in her body.
"Bruh, I gotta eat, what's wrong with a burrito?"
"You only need to eat to feed your muscles, and you should feed your muscle protein and less fat."
Did she ask him? "Bruh, I like my food to taste good."
He smiled at her and she smiled back. He was fine, fine. Like where had he been hiding? She thought she knew everybody. Maybe not. The school was large, and even though the Black student population was not as large, the school year was new still, and he might be new. He was tall, light brown-skinned with a large beard that was sexy on him, and he had a low haircut with some tight waves. She could not tell what his body was doing with his t-shirt and jeans, but how he was talking about eating healthily and feeding muscles, she knew he had a six-pack.
She wanted to see.
"You're the chick from the radio."
"The one and only!" He grabbed his order and paid for his, and she took her burrito and paid, but wanted to continue to talk with him.
"I listen to you every morning."
Great, a fan. She smiled hard at him now. "REALLY! I mean, really? Yo, that's what's up. What do you like about my show?"
"Your voice," he answered, then licked his bottom lip. "It's sexy.
She smiled hard and blushed. He was trying to steal her heart away saying all the right things. She was just gonna walk back to the house and eat her burrito like a slob, but now she would eat it all cute if he would stay and talk to her.
"Want to have lunch together? I mean, you can tell me more about eating right so I can have a better body and all." She looked around for a table, but the place was packed. It was the middle of the day and most students were having lunch.
He glanced over at her. "Body looking good to me."
Damn, here she was blushing like a chump at him. Well, at least she was dark-skinned and it did not show.
"I can't right now." He pulled out his phone and tapped around a bit. "Give me your IG page, I'll DM you so we can chat."
"Word! I mean, sure, no thang."
His name was R'phael, no A, and she thought that was weird, but it was not his fault his parents named him that. He was twenty and he was a sophomore. He was majoring in Sports Medicine, and that figured since he was into health and fitness. They texted for a few days before she was ready to hook up with him. Finally, a guy that interested her and liked her back.
Of course, he wanted to meet at the school's new fitness center. She had never been, but she heard lots of girls liked to go and try to meet guys. That was not her idea of a date. She was old school, movie, and something to eat, she did not care if that included Netflix and chilling. A date at a gym? She had never worked out a day in her life unless she included horrible gym classes where they made you run, do crunches, and that horrible pull-up test.
