Sherry's POV
"Thanks for inviting me to your room so that we can hang out and get to know each other."
Sherry mentioned to Essence that they needed to bond while she was on line as she would be her special sister. When she heard that she'd bonded with her line sister already, she sort of got jealous. Sure, Jill was their Dean of Pledges, but she was her special sister, and their bond was supposed to be closer. She was not going to force a relationship with her, so she was glad when she finally reached out and invited her over.
"Sorry, it's just hanging here in my room. I can only spare about an hour or so. Maybe we can hang out later for longer." Essence sat at her desk and did not even look up at her as she typed away on her laptop.
She looked around her room, which was pretty bare except for the normal dorm room furniture, a bed made up in dark blue sheets and a pale blue comforter, a built-in-the-wall desk, and a chair. Her closet door was half-opened and it was stuffed with clothes, and piles were on the closet floor. There was a black footlocker against the wall on the opposite side of the bed and a mid-sized flat-screen television sat on it. The room was small, but she stayed in a similar room her sophomore year, plus had a roommate. She was happy her parents agreed to her moving off campus last year, and she shared an apartment with Kaori and Rosaline.
"No problem. I bet you're busy with everything going on, and classes and...still having a life right?" She took a seat on her bed. She had a single room in the suite-style dorms. That meant she shared a common living room and kitchenette area with at least one other roommate.
"Haa! That's funny," she chortled. "A life! I have no life. Just studying, going to classes, and...well now pledging. I'm not complaining, just saying, no time for friends and just hanging out. Don't have many friends anyway. Just really my sister, but she's a senior this year and doesn't like me hanging around much." Essence finally turned her attention to Sherry. "Oh, sorry...am I talking too much?"
"No, it's cool. That's why I am here, trying to get to know you." She smiled at her. She was a pretty girl, but she could tell she was shy and introverted. She wore glasses now, whereas she typically probably wore contact lenses. Her honey-brown curls pulled up in a messy ponytail, and she wore pajama bottoms and a t-shirt.
Sherry was glammed up, as she always was. She never left the house looking less than stellar. Make-up reapplied after a long day of classes and tutoring sessions, a fresh sew-in weave her girl Rosaline did for her less than a week ago, and a fitted khaki button-down dress and matching sandals. She never knew who she would run into and she liked to look her best. From what she could tell of Essence so far, she was not into make-up but she was always dressed nice.
"Ask me anything you like. We're trying to get to know each other," Sherry said to her.
"Ummm..." She shrugged. "I don't know."
Sherry held in an eye-roll. She was only two years older than her, but she made her feel even older. "What about your roommates? Are you friends with them?"
"No. Don't know them. This was one of the few singles they had. I didn't want a roommate."
"Why?"
"Had one last year and that was a mess."
"What about your sister? Why don't you room with her?"
"Ha! No way. I lived with her for how many years...sixteen. When she left for college I felt some sort of independence. She always was bossing me around. Don't get me wrong, I love her and we're close, but I would not want to live with her...and I think she feels the same."
"I have a younger brother. I get it. We're four years apart. He's a senior in high school. We're not that close so I doubt he even considers coming to ISU...even though I will be gone next year. Did you pick ISU to be with your sister?"
