Jill POV
She still had not heard much from Mac or seen him since she last visited him before the break. Was he ghosting her? When she would text him, he would reply late with simple, short answers.
If he wanted to end things, he should do it like a man.
Well, she was that type of chick she was not going to be tossed by the wayside. Once a weekend was clear, she drove to Edwardsville to surprise him. Either he would be happy to see her and all was good, or they ended things face to face.
She tried texting him that she wanted to see him, but of course, he never replied back.
Good thing she remembered his Resident Hall and his room number. She knocked on the door, anxious to see his reaction. Happy, mad, or indifferent, she was here now.
One of his suitemates opened the door and he remembered her from the last visit.
"He's in his room I think, go on in."
He had white roommates, they were on the football team with him. She had not met his actual roommate, maybe she would meet him this time.
When she opened the door, it took a moment before she realized what she was seeing. The room was dark, but the sounds coming from the bed were loud.
She hit the light switch on and there was no mistaking what was going on. Mac was in the bed, his roommate's bed and he was on top of a guy. They were not wrestling either, they were in the middle of something far more intimate.
"Ummm...sorry to interrupt..." was all she could say, backing out of the room.
Mac stopped what he was doing and looked up at her. "Jillian?"
How could they not have heard her enter the room and stop themselves? Where they that into what they were doing to hear she was standing there watching in amazement as her boyfriend, the boy she wanted to give her virginity to, was having sex with a guy.
There were no words, so she managed to make it out of the suite and down the hall to the elevator. Her face was numb. Her whole body was numb. How could she not see that he was gay? But if he was gay, why did he pretend to be so into her?
Was she his beard? Guys still did things like that? The world had changed and if you were gay, be proud. She would have accepted that and not got involved.
By the time she made it to her car, Mac rushed down and met her as she was about to get in her car. He was all dressed in sweats and a t-shirt, where minutes ago he was naked in bed with his roommate.
"Jill, wait, let me explain."
"No. It's cool. I see now why you didn't want to have sex with me."
"No, I do! I mean, I did! I-"
"You're gay."
"I'm not gay," he said, rubbing his head. "I like you, Jill. And I like Jamal, my roommate."
"Okayyyyy..." She did not need to hear this.
"No, listen. I do like you Jill, and I want to be with you. But you were coming on too strong when I knew I had feelings for someone else. I didn't think Jamal felt the same way, but then we-"
"Hmmm." This was too much for her. "So you and he have been having sex this whole time? You've just been playing with my feelings for you."
"No Jill, I promise, it wasn't like that. Jamal and I happened over break. I just...didn't know how to tell you."
"But you're not gay?"
"I mean, I guess I'm bi."
She rolled her eyes at him. If he was honest with her at the beginning, she could have decided whether to be with him or not. His being bi and liking guys as well, was not a deal-breaker. Cheating and lying to her was.
