Jill POV

Ever since she got Mac's number, they either texted or talked every day of the week. She was feeling him. He was a junior like her and twenty-one. He was from Edwardsville so obviously stayed home to attend Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville. She had only been to that campus once, at the annual step show they put on that was a big deal in the Spring. She might have seen him there, but she did not remember.

He was on the football team and he was studying public relations. He said he had decent grades but was not a quick learner so he had to study a lot to keep his grades. She told him about her radio show and told him how he could listen to it from Edwardsville by going to her Instagram account.

He would discuss whatever topic she talked about on her show later that night. He was a real cool guy. She wanted to see him again, and she knew it was their Homecoming weekend, and she wanted to drive up there, but she was not going all the way up there by herself just for a boy, no matter how cute he was.

Friday night and stuck in the MAX house all alone. She was bored. No sorors to hang with. No boyfriend to talk to all night long. She didn't want to keep bugging Ivan, he had a life besides her.

She scrolled through her phone looking at Tik Tok videos, goofing out with them, and trying to learn some new challenges.

She was over that quick.

Maybe she could call Essence and hang with her. She better start getting friendly with the girl.

Next year she would probably be President. It would be just her and Essence, so that would be strange. That girl did not know it now, but she was going to be her backbone. Vice President as well as Treasurer. Two people in the chapter next year? Sheesh!

She was sure their advisor Ms. Jossie would step in more, maybe they would even get Alumni to help out. In the meantime, she had to get the pledges in order because they were still seriously slacking. She knew Lark was the one that kept Essence on her toes, and she wished Lark could stay around and be there for her next year.

She called Essence's phone but she did not answer. She knew that little girl was not ignoring her. Probably out with one of those guys, getting lucky unlike her.

She could call Lark, but she was not close to her and she was Zavrina's girl. She did not want to intrude on their friendship. Then again, she was Dean of Pledges, she could bond with the girls.

She called Lark and she answered very quickly.

"Yes, Dean Big Sister Jill?"

"You and Essence having a study session?"

"Huh? Uh, no. We kind of do our own things on Friday nights when we're off."

Then that girl could have picked up and answered and not play her off like she was a nobody. Sure she was going to give her some lame excuse about not being near her phone, but in this day and age, phones were attached at the hip to people. She would give her grace and maybe she would call her back later.

"What are you up to? Busy? Date plans."

"Ummm...no...why?"

She laughed. Lark was always nervous talking to her, even though she was older and more experienced than her, at least with having a boyfriend. Once Lark crossed, she hoped she would loosen up.

"Come on over to the MAX house and hang out with me."

"Umm...do I need to go find Essence?"

"No, just you. Come on. I'll find a movie for us to watch and we just chill."
