Zavrina POV

She could not believe Homecoming was next week! That kept her busy with her student government board. They had to give out parade details, floats and banners approved, had to make sure the tailgating was perfectly planned and had to get in contact with the Alumnae Association and make sure Alumni would come back with vigor. They always did. ISU's homecoming was always popping, and she did not plan for that to change under her watch.

With Alumni coming to town, that meant many of her prophytes would be in town. She loved visiting with MAX members that were out there in the world doing it big. They always revived her energy, inspired her, and made her want to do even more. Of course, they all knew they had a line, but because they were not close to crossing soon, they could not meet them. Alumni could not pledge initiates, only if they were approved by their Regional Director.

Sometimes, if they needed help, not enough current members in the chapter, Alumnae who paid dues to an Alumnae Chapter, could assist with intake. None were approved this year because the three of them had their two pledges taken care of.

It was a good thing she was naturally smart and a fast learner because her grades were still on par to get all As again. She was getting more excited about graduating this year and was ready to apply for law school. She was looking at either Mizzou Law or SLU Law School. If she was moving back to St. Louis, she was not moving back to her mother's home. She did not have a great relationship with her mother. Her mother did not "raise" her, as she was young when she had her and still wanted to party. Pregnant at eighteen by a man she did not know much about.

All she knew of her father was that he was bi-racial, Black, and white. Her mother was Puerto Rican and Black. Her grandparents mostly raised her and she loved them. Her Papi was Puerto Rican and her grandmother, or GG as she called her was Black. She did not like being a young grandmother either, but she loved her only grandchild. Zavrina was off with her aunt Jossie a lot, even though she was two hours away. She would drive to St. Louis and snatch her up when her mother was out of control.

She spent ages three to seven living with her aunt in Normal, Illinois because her mother was off with a boyfriend doing who knows what. After that ended, she came for her and did her best to be a mother to her. They struggled, they were poor, and they did not have much, but her mother tried. She barely made it out of high school and then had her, so she did not have many career skills. She worked many odd-end jobs, but she always worked. She was a hard worker, Zavrina did get that from her.

That's why she was determined to do better with her life and when she realized she had the smarts for it, decided she needed to be a lawyer. She liked to argue and she liked being right, she felt that was good qualities in a lawyer. And she did not want to be any lawyer, she wanted to be a family lawyer and work with divorce and custody cases. She wanted to make a lot of money too, she was not afraid to admit that.

Growing up with little to nothing, she never wanted to struggle like that on her own.

And she did not want a man to hold her down either. She wanted her career. She was not going to do how many years in undergrad and law school to just just throw it away for some guy. She was focused on her future.

So when Kenyon called her while she was buried between books studying for the LSAT, she wanted to ignore him. Then her stomach did a flip just thinking about him, so she answered it.

"Hey, I'm really busy Ken-"

"Babe, I miss you. Let me come and get you."

"I can't right now, I'm studying."

"Just for a little bit. Come on girl, I haven't seen you in a week. Not even on campus. It's like you're ghosting me."

"I'm not, I told you with homecoming next week and my-"
