Lark POV
Every Homecoming since she had been there her parents made it a point to come down. She did not know why, they didn't go to college there. They brought her sisters who always got a kick out of it, especially this year since they would be off to college next year. Her parents took her shopping soon as they hit the Bloomington-Normal area Friday after her last class and they bought her things she didn't need, but she was not complaining.
"Is Ross coming down?" her mother asked.
"Yes, of course," she said, though she wished he would sit this one out. It was bad enough hiding pledging from her parents, she did not know how she could hide it from him.
Good thing the MAXs were giving them the weekend off to enjoy Homecoming, and she planned on it. She was going to hang with her sisters and catch up with them and go to the huge tailgate and even the football game with her parents.
When they made it back to her residence hall and put her things away, Zavrina knocked on her open door.
"Hey, Lark."
"Hi, Big Sis...I mean Zavrina! H-hey!" Why was she super nervous? Because this was her Big Sister now, not just her friend and RA.
"These must be your parents," Zavrina said, walking into the room. "Hi, I'm Zavrina DeCosta, Lark's RA, but also, a good friend."
"Oh, yes, hi sweetie!" her mother said, pulling Zavrina in for a hug. "I heard so much about you."
"Did you now?" Zavrina smiled at Lark.
"Yes, you're the student government president, right?" her father asked.
"Yes. And I served as President of BSU with Lark and she took over after me."
"I learned everything I know about being a leader from Zavrina. Mom, Dad, she's going to law school after she graduates."
"Where are the twins? I want to see how grown up they look." Zavrina met the twins several times when the two came to visit and hung out with them.
"Off trying to act grown on campus," her mother said. "We're meeting them soon for dinner. Want to join us Zavrina?"
"Mom, I'm sure Zavrina has a ton of things to do-"
"Of course, I can join you."
Great! Now she had to be super nervous at dinner and hope not to reveal she was pledging. She knew Zavrina would not talk about it, but what if her parents asked questions? They knew Zavrina was in a sorority and they knew she wanted to pledge, although they did not like the idea. Maybe they would not bring it up.
They left the residence hall and met up with the twins at Noodles & Co. on the far end of the campus. The twins saw Zavrina and talked her ear off.
She got a text from Ross that he had just made it to town and checked into his hotel. She told him where they were and he said he would try and make it there. Right as they were leaving, he showed up.
He looked gorgeous, his dread locs newly tightened were long and to his mid-back. He wore them pull back and tied down. His sandalwood skin was clear and bright and his beard and mustache were freshly groomed. He was dressed like he was walking down a runway, with a tie and all. Of course, his million-dollar smile as well.
"Hey," he greeted her with a kiss on her cheek. "Hello Mr. and Mrs. McCormack, how are you?"
"We're great, son," her father greeted, giving him a handshake.
"Jade and Amber! How are my girls?"
"When are you gonna hook us up with one of your brothers are sumthin'?" Jade asked, eyeing Ross over. Ross had two older brothers and a younger brother, but he still was too old for her seventeen-year-old sister.
