Sherry POV

Her life was a mess.

The whole Donte and Essence thing had her all messed up, it was hard to concentrate on anything. She especially ignored Taj as much as possible. She dodged his calls and texts because there was just no way she could face him.

Since it was a week before finals, instead of a topic of discussion, Sister Circle at the MAX house was more of a breather event. Hanging and chilling with the ladies of Mu Alpha Chi. Snacks, music, and getting to know them less formally.

They also were giving out their scholarships and when they won at the step show they were able to give out three one thousand dollar scholarships.

"Ladies thanks so much for hanging with us tonight, " Sherry greeted them. "And I'm not going to talk much but get down to it. The ladies of Mu Alpha Chi want to award our three scholarship winners! Woot woot!"

Her sorors and the ladies cheered. They had a small crowd and a few of their regulars. She knew some of them might have an interest in pledging next year and she was excited to come back next year and call them sorors.

"We have three scholarships to award tonight. The first one is...Daysha Waller!"

"Yo! That's me!" Daysha jumped up, her natural hair pulled back in an afro puff, no bright color today. "You ladies rock with that! Mo' money, mo' money, mo' money!"

Everyone laughed at her as she handed her a check and they took pictures. Daysha, a junior, was the type that was loud and ghetto but she was so smart it was a contrast to her personality. She knew she was a Southside Chicago native, and if she survived growing up there, she could make it anywhere.

"Okay, next we have the scholarship to award to...Vanessa Jacobs."

Vanessa smiled and stood to accept her check. She was a sophomore, quieter, opposite of Daysha, but a dynamo writer for the school's online newspaper. She covered the stuff most would not, as far as racism and sexism, and unfair student policies.

"Thank you ladies for this. Thank you very much." She stood and took her pictures with her.

"Next is...Jameela Jackson!"

"Aaaw!" Jameela stood to accept her award. She had been coming to Sister Circle meetings a lot, so she was happy she won the scholarship. She was always shy and to herself, not hanging with the other Black students on campus all year, except for coming to their meetings.

"Jameela, nice job," she said to her, handing her the check.

After they took pictures, they went back to refreshments and talked to the ladies getting to know them. Once the last girl left, they cleaned the place and got ready for their after meeting with Jossie.

They sat five chairs in a big circle with lots of spacing between them in the living room.

"Ladies, our last meeting," Zavrina said with a frown on her face. "I am going to miss you all so much."

"But since you're gonna be in Chicago, you can still come down often," Jill said.

"Between first-year law and..."

"Taking care of that fine man Kenyon!" Jill blurted out. "Oh, my bad, don't mind me."

"I'll be back for Homecoming for sure."

"First party of the year too. The Alphas don't play with that, and I know Kenyon will want to come," Jill added.

"I don't think he will have time for that either."

Sherry looked over her Special Big Sister. She was hiding something, but it was not for her to pry. When she told them she would be attending Law School at the University of Chicago, she was not shocked. Happy that she would get to have her friend near. Kenyon and her living together was a shock. They had something special.
