Lark POV
It was already midterm time and she studied like crazy. She thought she was doing well so far in all her classes, so she just had to stick with what she was doing. The only time she was distracted from her studies was when she was thinking about Frankie, and that was a lot, even when she was not with him. She even backed out of studying with him because they were not that productive from her end.
They had never kissed again or crossed the line, but some of the things she thought about doing with Frankie, she never thought about doing with Ross. She was a bad girlfriend.
On top of her studies and pledging duties, she was "voluntold" to help tutor Kenyon Barnes with his accounting class by none other than her Special Big Sister Zavrina. She did not mind it, she knew Kenyon pretty well. They had a few classes together over the years. Their majors were similar so they shared mostly accounting classes. In fact, they had the same accounting class, just different teachers.
Kenyon was always nice to her, and though he was a known playboy, he never hit on her.
"Thankfully this is my last accounting class I will have to take!" Kenyon said while they studied in a study room in her dorm. It was easier to do it there than go to the library. She did not want to run into Frankie, she was trying to avoid him.
"I love my accounting classes," she told him. "I do better at them than my other business classes."
"Math just sucks. But I do want to know how to track my money. I trust no one when it comes to my money."
He was barely getting by in his accounting class after she looked over his previous work. This was their second study session. Everyone knew two things about Kenyon Barnes on campus, he liked the ladies and he was a slacker. If he went to class at all, he would sleep or not pay attention, and then borrow notes from some pretty girl that gave into his flirtations. How he had made it through college so far without flunking out was a mystery.
But the thing was...he was actually smart. She wondered if he had a learning disability like her. Once she went over the work with him, he came back to their next study session with everything done correctly. He managed to finish a mock budget for a company including journal entries for A/R and A/P and payroll, as well as pointing out cost savings by investing some of the revenue in interest-bearing accounts. He went well above and beyond the assignment.
"Kenyon, you did this all by yourself?" She looked over his work. He put her little mock budget to shame.
"Yeah, of course I did. What did I do wrong? I stayed up super late working on it."
"It looks...good, real good. I think you need to help me with mine."
He grinned. "Really? For real? You think so?"
"Yes, Kenyon. You know this stuff."
"Maybe I just have a great teacher. You should be a teacher."
"Oh, no way!" she chuckled. "I've always wanted to run my own business."
"Me too," he quietly said, putting his work away. "Thanks Lark, for helping me. I might ace this midterm project after all."
"Thank Zavrina for asking me to help." More like demanding she help. Zavrina was smart, why couldn't she help him? But then, she was sure Zavrina was not taking any accounting classes. Still, why did she care that Kenyon needed help?
"You cool with Z like that?"
"Uh...yeah, sure." She couldn't tell him she was on line for MAX, but maybe he figured it out as Frankie did.
"That's right, y'all were in BSU together."
"Yeah, that's it. Zav and I have been friends since freshman year. She's real cool. And I mean, we're both Show Me State peeps, me Kansas City, her St. Louis. We just connected like that freshman year and..." She stopped herself. She was babbling too much. Kenyon was just listening and nodding his head. "Sorry, talking too much."
