Lark POV
She aced her finals. Never had she felt so confident in getting all As in her classes.
Something had truly changed in her since crossing into Mu Alpha Chi. She always heard people say Greeks changed once they were in a fraternity or sorority. Maybe so. But she knew she changed for the better.
Most of all, she enjoyed being in a new relationship with a guy that listened to her, let her make her own decisions, and was super sexy and gorgeous. Frankie was what she needed when she thought she didn't need him.
After her last finals, she packed her bags to get ready to go home to Kansas City. Frankie was from Peoria, Illinois not far from Bloomington, and he was leaving for home as well. He met her in her room so he could say goodbye.
"How we just get together and you have to leave me?"
"Only three weeks and then we will be back."
Frankie kissed her neck, then kissed her on the lips. "I don't know if I can wait that long baby. Maybe I need to hit up KC and-"
"Nooo...I mean, don't do that." She had not told her parents she broke up with Ross, and she wanted to have a talk with Ross and let him know she had moved on. Plus she had to tell them she pledged. Now was not the time to introduce Frankie to them.
"Oh, it's like that. Okay, fine. You want to come to Peoria and meet my parents?"
"Don't you think it's too soon?"
"No, I know I found a good thing, I want them to meet you."
"After break then? It's not far, we can go there any weekend."
"That's a plan."
Once she got Frankie off the idea of coming to Kansas City, they moved on to other things.
"I think you really should stay and get your Master's degree."
She smiled at him, having told him what Zavrina suggested to her. "Of course you do, because you want me to still be here."
He held up his hands in surrender. "No, your decision, I'm out of it."
He grabbed her bags and they left her room to head to her car. Her old self would make the decision based on someone else. She never considered graduate school before, so no way could she jump on that idea. She was ready to start working and build a savings of her own so that she could open her store. That had been her goal for many years.
After she said goodbyes to Frankie, she journeyed the long trip home, all by herself with her thoughts. Zavrina was staying in town in Bloomington-Normal with her aunt, and her mother was coming in for the holidays. Sherry had already left for Chicago, and Jill was headed back to St. Louis the next day. Though she came to college alone, no friends, no she had some she could call her friends.
That made her smile. She could not wait to do more MAX work. No matter what her parents would say, they could not take away her enthusiasm.
But she was wrong.
Her parents were happy she was home and hugged and kissed her. Her sisters talked her ear off about what they were up to and when she started to unpack and pulled out a loud orange MAX t-shirt, her sisters gasped.
"You did it!" Amber said.
"Oooo, that is so awesome!" Jade hugged her. "I want to pledge when I go to college."
"Pledge what?" Amber asked her.
Jade shrugged. "I don't know, whatever, but if Lark likes MAX, maybe that."
