Nico's POV

I slept alone in the corner of the chamber that night. Clara refused to let to me sleep near her. I didn't try to make her let me sleep with her though.

I didn't sleep well. My blood boiled and my heart raced. I wanted Von's head to roll. I wanted this kingdom to fall. I wanted the world to fucking burn.

The sound of a child laughing outside woke me up. It took a few moments for my eyes to adjust to the low light.

Finally they did, and I saw Clara slept curled in a ball, Petra by her side. Bryn was laying across from them. She was awake.

"Bryn? You usually don't wake up so early."

She nodded, "I didn't sleep."

I rubbed my eyes, "Like, at all?"

She shook her head. She looked sad, "Nope. First night I haven't slept by Rain's side in months. I couldn't sleep even if I wanted to."

I sighed, "First night I didn't sleep next to Clara."

"It's different though. At least you slept in the same room as her. How do we know the guards haven't raided the house and killed Rain?" I had never seen her so solemn.

We sat in silence a few minutes. I stood up and stretched, "I'll go find food."

"From where?"

I popped open the manhole cover and looked out. No one was on the street from what I could see. I slid the cover back and climbed up, "Stay out of sight."

Ghost's POV

I slept alone in the female barracks, since I was the only female in the New Roman army. My katanas laid next to me. I slept in my armor as well. If Von or any of the guards came after me, they'd lose.

I woke up when the sunlight shone in my eyes. I rolled to my side and felt sadness overwhelm me when I saw that Petra wasn't laying by my side.

I sat at the edge of my bed, and laced my boots up. I heard footsteps coming from the hallway outside, and I grabbed a katana.

There was a knock at the door and a voice, "Ghost, you awake?"

"Come in."

It was a soldier. He held a plasma pistol, so I lowered my katanas. They wouldn't send one man with a plasma pistol to stop me. They didn't even know I was friends with Clara or any of her friends. I took extra care to make sure they didn't know about Petra and I.

The guard nodded, "You forgot to put a stamp on this letter."

"What?"

He held up an envelope, "This letter was in your box, but you forgot to put a stamp on it."

That wasn't my letter, but I nodded anyways, "Oh, just leave it on the desk right there, I'll put a stamp on it in a while."

He set it down and walked out. His eyes didn't scream assassin. He was just the messenger.

I waited until his footsteps faded, and quickly opened the letter.

"Rachel, meet me in Warehouse Six tonight at midnight. Come alone, and unarmed. -H.C."

H.C.? I couldn't think of anyone in the kingdom with those initials that knew my name was Rachel.

Kingdom curfew was at ten, and Warehouse Six was heavily guarded since it was where the Deserters were.

I never went anywhere without my katanas, I intended to bring them with me.

I tossed the letter in the fireplace and quickly wrote another letter, "Need more women soldiers. - Ghost"
