"Hi, I'm looking for someone by the name of Julian Rye." The front desk lady was tall and skinny, I was convinced she was secretly a model. She was super tanned, but it was more scary than beautiful. Her skin looked like leather. The way her forehead was glowing almost blinded me. The only reason I was insulting her is because of the disgusting look that she shot me. I mean, super clear and bitchy look. "Are you feeling alright?" Tilting my head to the side, I raised my eyebrows and kept my cigarette between my fingers. Oh...
"Ma'am, there's no smoking in the building. Did you see the sign?" Her bony fingers pointed in the direction of the door as I spun my head around to look. There was a no smoking sign indeed... why hadn't I noticed that?
Mentally scolding myself, I turned back around and shot her a fake smile. This bitch rolled her goddamn eyes at me. Was she serious? "Right... well, do you know where I could find him?" I walked a few steps to the side, shoving the cigarette into the gold ashtray next to the front desk.
"Do you have an appointment?" The lady gave me another judgmental look, clicking her tongue together before looking back down to her computer.
"No... I didn't know I needed one."
The lady looked up, smirking at me before beginning to type in that annoying ass keyboard of hers. "Well then, you can't see him sweetie." Sweetie? Bullshit.
Reaching over the counter, I put the palm of my hand across the computer screen she was typing on, blocking her vision. "Look walmart Donatella Versace, I don't know who you think you are but you have been awfully rude and I don't like rude people. I don't care if your boss is going to fire you, tell me where Mr. Rye's office is. Now." This was in no way my fault, just so we are clear. This fake fucker deserved my attitude. She looked taken aback by my response, her eyes wandering behind her in hopes for help. "Do I need to repeat myself?" I snapped my fingers in front of her face to regain her attention.
"Floor 14, Room 306." She gulped, staring straight into my eyes as I slowly took my hand off of her computer.
"Thank you for being so cooperative. See? Not that hard to be nice." The way she was so nervous but was trying to play it off reminded me of how I acted with Nico.
God, Nico made me so jittery. I was convinced he was one of the only people who could actually intimidate me to the point where I get submissive. I don't submit to people, who the hell would I be if I just sucked up to people my whole life?
Stepping into the elevator, there were a few more people in this tiny space with me who were all staring as well. Everyone is so fucking judgmental. I'd kill everyone in the goddamn elevator if I could. A few people shuffled out, and eventually I was alone in this old ass antique elevator that felt like it could fall apart any second. Come on Rye, you couldn't at least do some renovations with your fake money?
I finally reached the 14th floor, stepping out and continuing through the hallway. There were only a few offices up here, all which were labeled with very important titles. CFO, COO, Vice President... finally CEO. Julian Rye was carved into a name plate that was planted on a door.
Ok, how the hell was I going to play this off? Seduction? Lame nerd? Let me just wing it. Looking over to my side, there were some loose stacks of paper on the side of this printer next to his desk. Someone passed by me, doing a double take and giving me a weird stare before I grabbed the papers and knocked on his door.
"Come in." I pushed the door open, only to reveal a man I could not yet see the face of seated away from me. His legs were folded, a cigarette occupying his mouth. Ms. Ugly yelled at me for what?
