it was early in the morning as gwen walked through the hospital after her first ct's scan with amelia.

mark was a little worried about her still going to work but hesitantly agreed due to the fellowship with arizona.

she still hadn't told derek and she was going to avoid doing it only for amelia's sake.

she knew the moment she'd tell him he'd come back from dc and ripping the lead on her case out of amelia's hands.

and she didn't want that.

derek is good, great, obviously. but amelia was equally good if not better.

she also hadn't told callie and she was really scared.

she could already imagine callie's look on her face for not telling her sooner. the same look mark had when she told him yesterday.

mark was still processing it and while doing so he hardly talked to her.

to be honest, she could understand it. she'd do the same.

still captured in her thought she didn't noticed meredith calling her.

"gwen." she greets her sister-in-law.

"hey." gwen greets back with small smile.

"i texted you earlier." meredith states as they began to walk down next to each other.

"yeah, sorry, i was busy." gwen lied not wanting to tell her that she was in a ct machine doing some scans because she had a big tumour.

not that she didn't trust meredith but she knew that meredith knowing somewhat meaning derek knowing about it.

"well, cristina would've responded. that's not how it works." meredith complains.

"not if she was doing what i was doing." gwen mumbles.

"you pause. that's the rule." meredith exclaims.

"what?" gwen furrows her brows.

"if the text is urgent, cristina would say to owen pause, and i would say to derek pause, then we'd text each other back." meredith explains.

"even in the middle of sex?" gwen asks.

"if the text is urgent." meredith repeats more forceful.

"the fact you are checking your text while you're doing it is already sad." gwen states.

"we have a special ringtone. hey, you want a special ringtone?" meredith asks her with a hopeful smile.

"no." gwen declines. "wait, this pause thing, like your legs are in the air and you're screaming and-"

"pause." meredith ends her sentence.

"no, i don't pause. mark doesn't pause. he fast-fowards, he rewinds, but he doesn't pause." gwen tells her as she came to a halt at the elevator.

"okay, that's gross." meredith scrunches her nose up. "do you wanna scrub in on my ivc sarcoma?"

"is it a kid?" gwen asks not knowing any other reason meredith would ask her.

"no." meredith replies.

"then no. why?" gwen asks still confused.

"because i want some company." meredith explains.

"get a resident." gwen suggests.

"i have a resident. i want a grownup." meredith insists.

"bye." gwen waves stepping into the elevator.
