gwen was just finished with her first surgery for today. she was on call last night and had to operate on a car accident victim.

it was the next day, 8 in the morning to be exact, when gwen got a coffee and a sandwich and sat down with both things in the doctors lounge.

gwen bite into her sandwich feeling already tired. she only wants to go to the bed but her shift hasn't ended yet.

she finished her sandwich feeling a bit better afterwards before walking back down the hall to the o.r. board to wipe away and write down her name. she saw meredith writing something on the board and approached her.

"hey, just finished my surgery." gwen greets causing meredith to turn around and look at her. "did i miss it?"

"no, you're good." meredith assures holding her scrub cap in her hands. she's now using derek's old ferry scrub cap which gwen finds sweet of her.

gwen started to wipe off her name from the board when meredith phone went off.

"wow, that was fast." meredith gasps looking at the screen.

"what was fast?" gwen asks confused.

"i put out feelers with a real-estate agent, about the house, and looks like i got an offer." meredith blurts causing gwen to look at her with slight wide eyes.

"you're selling the house?" gwen asks shocked.

"no. i don't know. maybe." meredith stutterts.

"why do people constantly feel the need to kill their arteries?" maggie asks annoyed as she approaches them.

"i wish i could answer you that. we just have to deal with it." gwen replies to her with a slight smile.

"are they here yet? did i miss it? tell me i didn't miss it." callie says as she walks up behind gwen.

"nope." gwen replies her best friend.

"i almost forgot." maggie says.

"i can't wait to see the beads of sweat on their freaked-out little faces." callie chuckles.

"man. did i miss it?" mark asks approaching them.

"nope. nope." gwen replies to him.

"i want to see someone crap, actually crap." mark chuckles causing gwen to slap his chest.

"seen it, smelled it. not as fun as you'd think." callie tells him.

"it's happing!" arizona squeals running past them. "the baby chicks and ducks are here!"

all of them sat down in the gallery watching richard leading the new interns into the e.r.

gwen sat down with a sigh between mark and callie not actually interested in watching some young, excited former med students thinking that they reached everything they dreamed of. it's just the beginning.

"each of you today comes here hopeful, wanting in on the game." richard begans his famous speech he does every year. "a month ago, you were in med school, being taught by doctors. today, you are the doctors. the five years you spend here as surgical resident will be the best and worst of your lifes. they-"

richard got cut off by one girl eagerly raising her hand.

"you have a question?" richard asks shocked. no one ever cut him off while doing this speech.

mark begin to snicker next to gwen thinking it's funny.

"yes. why?" the girl asks.

"you raised your hand?" richard replies with furrowed brows clearly irritated by the girl.
