gwen was at the hospital in seattle again when she got paged to the e.r.

"they paged you guys too?" she asks once enters the e.r to find derek, burke, mark and callie gathered up.

"i think he paged all of us." burke said.

"that can't be good." gwen confirms.

"sure it can." mark chimed in. "he could be letting us know i won the race of chief."

"not today. he's making his recommendation to the board tomorrow." bailey explained as she approached them. "for chief of surgery and chief of resident."

"then why are we all paged?" derek asked.

"because search and rescue found those lost climbers who were up on mount rainer." bailey informs them.

"people. climbers are on their way." richard tells them.

"any specifics?" derek asks.

"they found only three so far. one is still missing." the chief tells them. "they're reporting severe dehydration with traumatic head and chest injuries. dr.bailey, dr.torres, you'll be my trauma team."

"bad day to not have interns." bailey complains.

"what?" mark asked confused.

"today is the intern exam." gwen tells him.

"you have to do your own heavy lifting today." bailey said to wich mark shook his head sighing. "and if you see an intern, wich you will because they can't help themselves, turn them away until after the exam." she said making everyone nod. "the ambulances are five minutes away. it's time to do best."

gwen was in the trauma with the first climber.

"please someone tell me, are the other guys ok?" the climber, dale, asks.

"they're right behind you." gwen assures him.

"get him a tet-toxin, push a gram of cefazolin iv." mark orders who was examine the climbers head. "let's get some warm circulation water to start thawing his hands."

"i'll get someone on it." gwen says and walk out of the trauma room. "callie." she called the resident.

"nice work, gwen." derek compliments his sister who was running the e.r for the first time.

"thanks. i was just directing traffic."

"i was being sarcastic." he mocked her.

"brain surgery's so impressiv." she said sarcastic as well.

"it is actually." he says and walks away.

"gwen." someone called her from behind.

she turns around to find joe and his husband walter standing in the e.r.

"oh, joe. walter. what are you guys doing here? everything okay?" she asks concerned.

"yeah. we came to see you, actually. we need a consult." joe explaines.

"don't tell me your pregnant?" gwen joked.

"no, but... our birth mom is." walter says.

"potential birth mom." joe corrected him. "she hasn't actually picked us yet."

"you're adopting?" gwen asks happily suprised.

"well, we filled an application, but we never thought we'd get picked." joe explaines. "bar-owning gays don't get picked very often."
