"we'll start with kelsey's double lung transplant first, and then, assuming the procedure goes well, we'll go ahead and do the liver and pancreas." gwen explains the patients parents.

"and it has to be all at once?" kelsey's mom asks worried.

"her cf has compromised her lungs, liver and pancreas." gwen explains. "replace any one of those organs now, and the others are just gonna break down. i know it seems overwhelming. the surgery's long and extensive, but this is our best shot."

"i don't want to do it." kelsey interjects causing the three to look at her.

"sweetie, please." kelsey's father sighs.

"kelsey, you know how important this is." her mom reminds her.

"i don't care. i don't want to do it." kelsey repeats.

"i hear you. it's a bummer, though. this donor is a perfect match. one in a million. you know, if we do this now, you can make your spring formal. didn't you say what's his name asked you?" gwen asks the young girl. "sam? or steve? or-"

"parker." kelsey replies.

"well, i guess parker can find someone else." gwen says.

"i don't want to go if i can only sit and watch and be pitied." kelsey explains.

"what, are you kidding me? with these lungs? they're gonna have to drag you off that dance floor." gwen assures.

"really?" kelsey asks hopeful.

"really." gwen replies.

"so, dr.shepherd, how do we proceed? what's the first step?" kelsey's father asks.

meredith and maggie meanwhile stood in front of the room watching through the window how gwen talks to the parents.

"is that the kid gwen pages us about?" meredith asks her sister who leaned against the counter with a tablet in her hand.

"yep. triple organ transplant." maggie says giving the device to meredith. "lungs, liver, pancreas- the trifecta. it's gonna be a long night."

"i better text the sitter." meredith sighs taking out her phone.

"so, not that it's any of my business.." maggie says referring to earlier when she saw thorpe and meredith talking outside the hospital.

"it's not." meredith says. "he asked me out. it's not a big deal."

"so you said no?" maggie asks. but meredith didn't answer. "you said yes?"

"kind of." meredith shrugs. "maybe. it's drinks."

"good. you're free. you awake?" gwen asks meredith leaving kelsey's room.

"yeah, i'm good." meredith replies as the three walked down the hall.

"this is good." maggie smiles at the brunette.

"can we not?" meredith asks not wanting to make a big deal out of it.

"you're ready." maggie assures. "i thought i wasn't ready with deluca, but now that it's out in the open, it's good."

"what's good?" gwen asks.

"thorpe, the military doctor. he asked mer out. she said yes." maggie explains.

"she said yes to buy time." gwen says. "she'll blow him off later. she'll cancel."

"you didn't see this guy." maggie says.

"i don't have to." gwen replies. "i know, mer."

"i know mer, too." maggie says.
