𝑚𝑒𝑚𝑜𝑟𝑦 10: 𝑎 𝑝𝑙𝑜𝑡 𝑓𝑜𝑟 𝑣𝑒𝑛𝑔𝑎𝑛𝑐𝑒

100 years had passed since the royal
marriage of Kai and Speranza, and they
were living happily and peacefully with
their two infant sons— for when a human's
mate is a vampire, they become immortal
just like them. However, this peace
would soon be tarnished, as the Scarlet
Eclipse was coming once again.

"Kai... KAI!!" She grabbed his cold, pale arm, startling him.

"S-Speranza, I thought you were asleep! Where you going?" He snatched back his arm and backed away from her, covering his nose.

"That is what I should be asking you! Everyday for the past two weeks you have been sneaking out of the castle and going heaven knows where!"

"I—"

"And this is not the first time you have acted strange like this! You did this a century ago when we got married and now you're doing it after I've given birth!"

"..."

The air in the hallway was heavy as the couple stood across from each other, one averting his eyes to the ground and the other using hers to scan and study him, searching feverishly for an answer.

Speranza then gasped and disgust spread across her S/C features. "I know... you must be cheating!"

"CHEATING?! ME?!"

"I see it now... you are not loyal and afraid of responsibility and— mmmph—!"

Kai had cut off Speranza's rapid spew of anger-filled words with an icy, passionate kiss on her lips and pinning her to the wall. Overwhelmed from the stress of the Eclipse coming and the tension of this confrontation, it was the only thing he could channel his scattered emotions into— well, either that or biting her, but that would not be good now would it? The feeling of her soft, sweet lips on his made him forget about that other half of him, the half that is a "monster", the half that at any given moment, could harm Speranza or their children or anyone else that was dear to him. This feeling, it made him feel... human.

Speranza suddenly pushed Kai away from herself and glowered at him angrily. "Do not wheedle me now that you have been caught in the act! How dare you be disloyal to me?!"

"Darling, I have not been disloyal to you!" He was now as angry as her, and didn't care about how loud his voice was. "You are my one and only mate and I love you dearly! I would never cheat on y—"

"Then surely you have some reason for sneaking away so much lately."

Aaaaand now he was silent. He did have 'some reason', the Scarlet Eclipse, but he found it difficult to tell her. He couldn't imagine how horrified she would be at such an event that completely changes him. Would this make her scared of him?

"I'm waiting," she sassed, tapping her foot and crossing her arms.

"Umm I... I just— ahh..." Kai desperately searched his mind for an excuse, then finally: "I need to get away!"

Speranza cocked her head and raised an eyebrow at him.

"The... the twins! Yes, the twins. Being a new parent has just been stressful for me lately, and I just need to get away for a break every once in a while," he babbled.

At this, her face softened from its previous distrusting expression, and she chuckled. "Ohh, I understand. Completely understand! Caring for the twins and recovering from birth has made me quite tired as well."

"Hehe, and I see that it has your mind in shambles as well, accusing me of such outlandish things!" Yes, that's it, just play along with her to keep up the act.

She blushed and hung her head in embarrassment. "Sorry, my love."

"Aw, do not fret dear," he said, patting her head. "Now go back to bed, a young mother needs her rest~"

She smiled at him and made her way back down the hall to her room. However, a creeping suspicion still remained in her mind.

"If it were just because he wanted a break, why did he not just tell me? Something else must be going on."

"Anything new?" The vampire queen asked.

"Yes. I think this will finally be the perfect time to strike your highness!" Loey said.

"Tell all!!"

"With the Scarlet Eclipse coming soon, King Kai has been sneaking out to avoid hurting Queen Speranza and their newborn children. However, Speranza thinks that he is cheating. Essentially, they are both very vulnerable because of this."

"PERFECT!" The queen exclaimed. "And the timing just makes this all the better!"

"Indeed! So, what plan are you thinking of your highness?"

"Hmm..." she thought for a moment, then snapped her fingers. "I know! On the night of the Eclipse, think of something that will lure Speranza out of the castle and towards Kai. We'll get him to bite her and turn her into a vampire, then we'll steal the Pearl from them and brainwash them!"

"Excellent! That is the perfect plot for vengeance!"
