Somewhere, on a winter night in 1788...

"Hurry, run faster!" the man urges his wife as they run along the icy sidewalks, sticking close to the houses so they won't be seen.

"Junmyeon I am not as fast as you and I just gave birth! We also have to be careful with our baby while running on this ice," she says out of breath, peering down at the newborn boy in her arms.

He sighs exasperatedly. "Alright, alright. How about we hide and wait until they pass?"

"Good idea."

They creep deep into the dark space between two houses and listen carefully for the angry crowd. Sure enough, they hear voices and thundering footsteps approach and begin to pass by.

"It worked!" the mother whispers to her husband.

"Yes, it did! Now all we have to do is—"

"WAAAAAAHHHHHHHH!"

The sudden crying of their newborn interrupts him. They stare at each other with panic in their eyes.

"Oh no... P-please little one, please don't cr—"

"I HEAR THE CHILD! THEY'RE THIS WAY!"

The man immediately takes up his wife and son in his arms and runs out the other side and through the street, the angry crowd close behind them. He keeps running until they spot a forest up ahead. Without a second thought, he sprints right in, the thick snow not slowing him down for even a second.

— "NO! THEY RAN INTO THE FOREST!"

— "WE'LL NEVER BE ABLE TO FIND THEM NOW!"

— "BUT AT LEAST WE WON'T HAVE TO EVER DEAL WITH THEM AND THAT FREAK OF A CHILD AGAIN HAHA!"

The man runs deeper and deeper through the snow-covered trees and until they spot a house. Without a second thought, he runs in through the rickety, unlocked door.

"Are you sure we should be doing this?" the mother asks nervously.

"It was our only choice!"

"At least check and see if anyone lives here!"

"It appears pretty vacant—"

"JUNMYEON!"

"Fine! I will go see."

Sore and tired, the mother sits on the floor and waits for her husband, rocking the newborn to sleep in her arms. She soon hears his footsteps coming back down the stairs.

"Empty. And there are no signs that anyone lives here," he speaks, sitting next to her on the floor.

She sighs in relief. "Thank goodness."

"So... I guess this will have to be our life now?"

"Yes, this will be our life. It is too dangerous out there for people like us, especially little Jongin."

"Why not?!"

"Please, just listen to us, son," the boy's father pleads.

"But I really love this girl! From the day I met her when I was picking apples in the forest, she's had my heart. Not only is she beautiful, but she is also kind, so why should I not pursue her?" the boy asks.
