𝑚𝑒𝑚𝑜𝑟𝑦 7: 𝑑𝑖𝑠𝑡𝑎𝑛𝑐𝑒

It was now only two more weeks until the wedding between Speranza and Kai. He had been so loving toward her before, but lately... he was acting different...

"Kai? You have been acting different lately... are you alright?" Speranza asked, stepping close to him.

He stepped back even further and covered his mouth and nose. "I-I am my love, and it's nothing that you have to worry about!"

"But ever since the wedding day has been getting closer, you have been very distant... do you not want to do this?" She took even more steps closer. "Your skin has also gotten a bit paler. Are you ill?"

His fangs kept growing and he could feel his ability to resist from biting her decreasing by the second. "I feel fine, and of course I want to marry you Speranza! I guess I have been acting out of the ordinary due to me being so nervous about all of this."

She stared into his eyes— which were turning bright red— and tried to look for any sign of dishonesty. Ultimately, she gave up, deciding to believe her fiancé. "So you just need some time to yourself. Space. Alright, I understand my love." And with that, she walked back to her room.

Kai sighed in relief, thankful that she didn't interrogate him any further. As she walked away, he could feel his craving for her blood dissipate. When he was certain that Speranza was far enough, he ran through the halls and out of the castle. Then he entered into the nearby forest and, after feeling as though he had run in far enough, stopped and closed his eyes. When he opened them back up, he was at the familiar shore of the beach that he had been coming to every night for these past weeks.

From there, he ran out into the ocean and dove in. He swam and swam, deeper and deeper into the dark water until the scene around him suddenly changed, and he spotted the familiar pier next to him. He pulled himself up onto and laid on it, staring up at the bright moon in the night sky.

"I am only doing this to protect her. I would feel terrible if I hurt her. Should I tell her about it...? No, no, I should not. I don't want her to be scared of me."

Kai continued to lay there and gaze at the moon. It's interesting really, how something so beautiful could also be something dangerous.
