It was a warm midsummer night when the world had turned upside down for the H/C haired girl. She was sound asleep in her comfy bed, cooled by the fan positioned next to it when she was awakened by the hum of her mother's car pulling into the driveway. Y/N groggily sat up and looked over at the digital clock on her dresser. "11:39 PM" it read, signifying that her mother had yet another busy day. She was never surprised though; it's what you'd expect from a business woman who has her own successful beauty product line. Even so, Y/N still yearned for tender moments where she could spend quality time with her mother... and she unfortunately didn't have a father to this spend this type of time with either; he left her life when she was just seven years old.

Just as she was about to doze off again, Y/N heard her mother's light footsteps come toward her door, and then into her room. She made her way to the side of her bed and gently shook her awake.

"Hmm? What is it eomma?" Y/N asked sleepily.

"I have something that I need to tell you sweetie", she responded, switching on the small lamp on the bedside table. "It's good news and bad news... which one do you wanna hear first?"

At this, Y/N sat up in bed, snapping out of her previously sleep-dazed state. 'Bad news?' she thought. What does she mean by that?

"Umm good news first, please".

Her mother took a deep breath, "Soooo, you know how I've been wanting to expand my business to other places, right?" Y/N nodded. "Well, I was given the opportunity to do so!"

A big smile spread across Y/N's face. "Really!? Oh, eomma that's amazing! I'm so happy for you!" She leapt from her sitting position on her bed and tackled her mother into a tight hug, making her
H/L, H/C curls bounce up and down wildly.

She returned the hug and planted a kiss on her forehead. "I know! I'm just as excited as you are."

So how could there be anything bad in that? Y/N thought to herself.

"And now, time for the bad news..." her mother began. "We have to move Y/N... to Bloomingville... which means that you also have to move to a new school."

And just like that, all of the joy that Y/N had been feeling in that moment quickly disappeared.

"Wh-What?"

Y/N's mother nodded. "And your new school is... Exodus High."

"EXODUS HIGH??" She exclaimed. "B-BUT EOMMA, THERE'S VAMPIRES THERE!"

"Please calm down honey... yes, I know it's scary, but... I can't pass up an opportunity like this."

She knew that her mother was right. Who in their right mind would ever pass up something like this? But, that didn't mean she still wasn't scared.

"Plus", her mother added, "wouldn't you want a place where you can start over? A fresh start from everything that happened at your old school?"

Y/N couldn't help but to somewhat agree with her mother. Her two previous school years at Wonderland High had been filled with a lot of unnecessary drama, foolish rumors, and jealous "friends" who would be right by her side one day, but stab her in the back the next. And being on the cheer team definitely did not help. It wasn't all darkness though; Y/N was a great student and had a few good friends that helped her through it all. In essence, it wasn't always perfect, but moving to a completely new school though!? WHERE MOST OF THE STUDENTS AREN'T EVEN HUMAN!?

Because of how silent she was and the puzzled expression that had been planted on her face for the past few minutes, Y/N's mother knew that it would be best to leave her alone and let her get some sleep to allow all of this to sink in.

Her mother stood up, switched off her lamp, and wished her a good night. But before she left her room, she gave Y/N some few last words as an attempt to give her some hope:

"Perhaps the reason why you're scared is because they're different from you Y/N. We fear what we don't know, so maybe if you try to get to know them, you'll find that you're more similar to them than you think".

And with that, she left her room, leaving Y/N to ponder on what she said.

'Maybe she's right'. Y/N thought. 'Maybe this really will be a better, easier year. Maybe I am just paranoid and there isn't anything to worry about'.

Maybe, maybe, maybe. Y/N had more and more of these thoughts until she eventually fell asleep, where her mind was finally at peace.
