Nothing was ever perfect, but at least things were peaceful. Everyone co-existed in harmony with each other, everyone got along, and everyone respected each other's differences... well, for the most part... as said before, not everything was perfect. But then, in the blink of an eye, it all changed.
The maid and the king shared a nice friendship. Whenever he needed her, she was there and ready to do any task handed to her and he admired her for her loyalty— and for him, his feelings were always only that: upmost appreciation. Nothing more, nothing less. For her however, what started as loyal stewardship grew into uncontainable love. Deep down inside she knew it was foolish; a poor maid falling for a descendant of the powerful vampire bloodline. But alas, her heart still dreamed of being the subject of his affection.
Eventually, he became distant. He stopped talking to her as often and was spending more and more time outside the castle. She suspected the worse, then one day, her suspicions were confirmed. The king was holding hands with a gorgeous human woman, who was cradling a beautiful baby boy. The maid's heart completely shattered at the sight and the pieces became hard as stone, as her sadness quickly turned into rage... resentment... envy.
Her jealousy towards the now newly crowned queen had deepened her bitter feelings towards all humans. She and other vampires knew that many humans hated their kind— how they feared and sneered at them yet had the audacity to call them the monsters. And all it took was an act of unrequited love to make her snap.
The years passed by, the royal couple grew more and more in love, their son grew older, and the maid plotted her revenge. The queen's demise came when it is was time for tea one day, the queen slipped poison into her cup, and she passed on in her sleep that night. The king and his young, innocent son mourned heavily for their beloved's departure, their hearts ever so vulnerable—
perfect for the maid to swoop in, and she did... with some help, of course.
She crept through the grand castle, relying on her memory and a single match to guide her path, darkened by the blanket of night. She eventually found the door, a rickety, mundane wooden door that perfectly gave the illusion that there hid nothing special in the room beyond it. She carefully turned the knob and tiptoed in, and immediately spotted the treasure in its glass case. Behold, the dark half of the Black Pearl. With it, after living a life of never having anything, she would finally get everything she desired. She gently removed the glass and swiped it from it's stand. Then, she made her way back to her room in the same quiet manner as before, and slipped back in bed.

"Good morning my king. Oh, are you alright? You look quite somber."
"She was my one and only love... I still miss her."
"...Don't fret. I know how to make you feel better."
"How could anything possibly— wait, why do you have that? Put that back where it belongs this instant! Do you know how dangero..."
"Now, who is your one and only love?"
"...You, my darling."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Look at our new baby boy. Isn't little Leoh just precious?"
"Yes my love, he certainly is."
"Better than that other half-blooded disgrace."
"Alright now—"
"But just listen to me. Just look at the way that boy walks with so much haughtiness knowing that he'll never go through our struggles, never made out to be a monster."
"Kai certainly does not. He's just a boy—"
"Do you really want the next ascendant to the crown to be one who looks down upon his own people?"
"..."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Why do you act so cruel to me but treat him kindly? I have done nothing to deserve this!"
"Unlike you, Leoh is my actual son!"
"But you should still treat us equally—"
"Also, YOU are the one who is an impure mutt! You are just like the rest of those filthy humans, constantly viewing us as inferior—"
"I HAVE NEVER HAD ANY THOUGHTS OR MUTTERED ANY WORDS OF THAT SORT! IT IS YOU WHO TREATS ME AS INFERIOR! Father, do you hear the lies coming out of this vile woman's mouth?!"
"KAI! HOW DARE YOU SPEAK OF MY WIFE IN THAT MANNER!"
"Wha— f-father..."
"Perhaps you should just leave..."
"Leoh? Brother? How could y—"
"Don't call me 'brother'"
"..."
"Alright then, I will be on my way. Clearly I am unwanted here."
"Good riddance~"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"MY FELLOW VAMPIRES! LEND ME YOUR EARS, FOR THE TIME HAS NOW COME FOR US TO RISE UP! WE HAVE FOREVER BEEN VILLAINIZED BY THOSE WICKED HUMANS JUST BECAUSE WE ARE DIFFERENT. IT IS NOW TIME FOR US TO HAVE THE POWER AND MAKE THEM FEEL OUR WRATH. THEY WILL FINALLY KNOW OUR PAIN!"
—"My queen! How ever shall we accomplish this?"—
"BY STEALING THE PURE HALF OF THE BLACK PEARL FROM THEM! THE JOINED HALVES CAN GRANT US THE WISH OF EVERLASTING POWER! BUT THEY ARE TOO PROUD TO HAND IT OVER PEACEFULLY, OF COURSE! SO... THIS. MEANS. WAR!!"
—"HOORAH!!"—
—"WE SHALL WIN!!"—
—"POWER WILL BE OURS!!"—
—"DORADOVANIA WILL BOW DOWN TO US"—
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
and so, was the eve of the war
