Set in the Scorch Trials au
———-
She started swinging her body back and front, her mind swirling with a plan to get her and friends out of here.
"Teresa, what are you doing?" Newt asked, confused as he hung upside down.
"Getting us out of here." She whispered, quietly as she kept swinging her body towards the rail.

Thomas silently stared at her, a small smile growing on his face as he watched her trying and failing to grab the rail. His brown eyes held a soft glimmer, finding her frown strangely adorable.
"Minho, push her." He muttered, quietly as he glanced at Minho. They had to get out of here before Jorge gave them back to WICKED.

Minho nodded, quickly grabbing Teresa's hips and pushed her forward with all his strength. They nervously watched her as she tried to reach the rail, missing by a few more inches.
"No...." She muttered under her breath as she swung her body back in Minho's direction.

"Come on, Minho. Push her harder." Newt shouted, loudly as he stared at them.
Minho grabbed Teresa's hips again, mustering all his arm strength as he pushed her forward. Teresa desperately swung her body, her arms stretched out and grabbed the rail.

She twisted her arms, hands still on the rail as she pulled the lever. Surprised gasps of the boy gladers filled the air as she quickly untied the rope on her feet, breathing shakily.

"Don't worry I'll get you guys out." She shouted as her blue eyes flicked around the lever, trying to find a safe way to bring them down.
"Teresa, hurry." Thomas shouted, loudly as worry spread through his chest. His gaze was fixated on her as he heard nearby voices, not wanting her to get hurt.

She gritted her teeth, knowing that the lever would make noise, alerting everyone at the settlement that they were escaping.
They needed a distraction.
"Tom, I'm going to distract them." Teresa whispered, softly as she stared at him.

"How?" He muttered, quietly as he stared back at her. The other gladers watched curiously as they wondered what Teresa was thinking, hoping it would get them free.
"Just trust me...." She whispered, quietly as she softly smiled at him. She briefly thought he looked cute hung upside down, his brown hair falling over his face.

Her blue eyes frantically flickered around her surroundings, spotting a fire alarm as it stood forgotten on its pillar stand. There was no time to think, she had to protect her friends. Protect Thomas.

She ran towards the fire alarm, raised her leg and smashed the glass with her foot as broken glass pieces fell onto the ground. The sound of a blaring siren filled the air, upsetting the leased cranks in the distance.

"Bloody hell, Teresa!" Newt spoke, shocked as he was slightly impressed at her plan. They silently watched her as she ran back towards them and pulled the lever, closer to the ground.

"We need to go now!" Thomas shouted to his friends as he quickly untied the rope on his feet. He heard loud voices and hurried footsteps approaching, probably the settlement people.
"You ok, Tom?" Teresa whispered, softly as she walked up to him and lightly touched his arm. She didn't like him hurt.

"I'm fine, Teresa." He muttered, quietly as he softly smiled at her. He touched her small hand on his arm, wanting to reassure her.
"Let's go." Newt spoke, quietly as he stood close to the group and nervously looked around. They all glanced at each other, making sure everyone was here as the sound of the blaring siren continued to fill the silence.

"You're not going anywhere." A raspy voice spoke, angrily as he held a gun in their direction. It was one of the men of this settlement. All of them froze, not wanting to move as they stared at the weapon pointed towards them.

"Just let us go." Thomas spoke, determinedly as he raised his hands in surrender and stared at the man. He instinctively shielded Teresa from his view, feeling her trembling against his back.

"You need to go back. WICKED has come to collect you." He shouted, angrily as he stepped forward and tightened his grip on his gun. Faint sounds of a helicopter and guards could be heard in the distance as panic spread through their bodies.

A sudden gunshot rang into the air, echoing against the walls as the man collapsed onto the ground. The bullet straight through his chest. All heads snapped towards the shooter, Brenda as she held her own gun.

"Come on. We need to go now." Brenda spoke, calmly as she gestured to follow her. She saw the suspicious looks on their faces and walked away, hearing their footsteps behind her.
It was the entwined hands of Thomas and Teresa that caught her attention as they ran together with their group towards Jorge. It looked natural to them.
