"Krystal Jung... Oh...OH! No way..." Officer Yong Hwa had a grim look plastered on his face as he continued to scan through the case file.
"Yes way... Who else could it be? FUCK! Another one of us has bite the dust. When will this ever end?!" Wheein curses as she felt her legs turning weak and flopped down, punching the floor in frustration until she eventually cries out in despair.
"Superintendent..." Joohyun interrupted them, "I'm sorry for your loss but don't you think we have more important things to attend? I've just received a call from the hospital where Seulgi is admitted, we have to go now."
Wheein gritted her teeth as she wipes her tears off then commanded, "Officer Yong Hwa, you will stay and wrap things up here. Joohyun, Moonbyul and eonni, please come with me to the hospital."
When they arrived at Joohyun's car, Wheein asked Moonbyul to drive, "Moonbyul-ssi, I'd need you to drive us to the hospital because I don't think Joohyun and I are in the right state of mind to do so." Moonbyul nodded and did as she was told. The car trip was dead silence, they didn't even bother to ask Solar what happened in case it affected Moonbyul's state of mind to drive.
Seulgi was found lying on the bed with a respirator covering her nose and mouth when they open the door to her ward. As soon as they approach her closer to the bed, she woke up and tried to get up from the bed but Joohyun gently push her back to bed.
"At ease, Officer." Wheein assures her, "I'm sorry it's not the best time since you need to rest, but I have to ask what happened."
Seulgi nodded and explained, "After I drove Miss Solar to pick up her friend Joy, we were on our way to Itaewon Club when a removalist truck tried to overtake our car, but it was skidding due to the slippery road. Before it crashed into our car, I activated the partition screen between the driver and back seat. Luckily, we installed it with bulletproof feature so Miss Solar and her friend are fine. As for me, the airbag was activated a tad too late, but I always wear a bullet-proof vest so I'm o- OUCH!"
Joohyun knocked on Seulgi's head with tears running down her cheeks. Seulgi was shocked at the sight and reached out to wipe Joohyun's tears with her thumbs.
"Bulletproof? Is your head bulletproof? Ya Kang Seulgi! Do you think you are a cat with nine lives? Do you know how worried I was when we couldn't reach you?" Joohyun scolded.
"B-But... It's part of my job-"
"YOUR JOB is to make ME a WIDOW?!"
Solar was surprised by the statement thinking to herself, 'So THAT'S WHY she wasn't in any state to drive... But why is Wheein affected too? And why does Moonbyul look soulless too?'
"No! No! Of course not! Please don't say that... I'm sorry, hun. I promise I'll be more careful, okay?"
Joohyun bawled and hugged Seulgi while lightly punching her chest, "I thought I'd lose you! Have you ever thought about me before doing something stupid?"
Seulgi stroke her wife's back consoling her, "I always do, hun. I'm sorry for worrying you. Please don't cry anymore, it hurts me more to see your tears. I love you." She pecked Joohyun's forehead.
"Right... You two should get a room... See you later Officer lovebirds." Wheein chuckle, dragging Solar and the soulless Moonbyul out of the room.
Solar's POV
"Eonni, I know you're fine and you look fine but let's get you checked anyway, shall we?" Wheein give me a concerned look so I nodded to assure her. As we were walking towards the doctor's consultation room, I can't shake off the curiosity off me.
"Wheein-ah..."
"Mmm? Eonni, what's wrong? Do you feel pain anywhere?" She asked that makes Moonbyul turn to look at me worried as well.
I shook my head and replied, "No Wheein-ah... I just want to ask is Officer Joohyun and Seulgi..."
"Married? Yes. What's wrong, eonni?" Wheein answered. Why does it sound all normal and natural coming from her...? Am I the only weird one here?
"Oh... I see." I replied, noticing Moonbyul looks hurt and I could guess why so I changed the topic to what I've been curious about, "Wheein, what do you mean by another one of us bites the dust?"
"Hm... The Jungs in our family has served the public sector for generations. Most of us are either police, lawyers or teachers, but never into politics or businesses. Ever since the Ahn Group gains control over the police and lawyers, our family basically became a dog for the wealthy and powerful people like them.
The reason why I had to move to Jeonju and my dad's death have something to do with them, that's why I came to investigate. Krystal is Yong Hwa and mine – our cousin. Her dad, Uncle Jin-Young is a detective in Itaewon.
She's also part of the special unit, I don't know why she volunteered even though her dad is against it. Krystal's mission is to go undercover and investigate Ahn Bo-Hyun but looking at her case file, it seems that she has been drugged even before she was drugged and raped by Bo-Hyun."
We arrived and sat in the waiting room outside the doctor's consultation room as soon as Wheein finishes her story. Moonbyul still looks soulless while my face blushes as my mind wanders back to that moment when I saw her in the club.
Her eyes were full of affection and I was deeply moved because I didn't think I'd get that much love from anyone, although it also pains me to see her blaming herself even though is not her fault.
"Byul-ah..." I called out, she looks at me with half a smile.
"Moonbyul-ssi, I thought I'm the one who lost a family member. How come you look worse than I do?" Wheein beat me into it.
"Because... Krystal Jung was my friend." She said, now looking down then corrected herself, "Well, ex-girlfriend."
"Ah... why wonder she volunteered." Wheein snapped her fingers linking everything together.
