"Help them!" Jesper screamed as he carried your lifeless body inside the Slat, everyone pausing whatever they were doing on that moment. Jesper's eyes were red and his cheeks were wet from tears still cascading down from his eyes and Nina ran to the scene, hurriedly gesturing Jesper to lay you down on one of the tables.

"Oh Saints..." she choked out when she saw your bruised and bloody face. "What happened?"

"The Cats, Grinning Cats, that new gang... they tricked us," Jesper whispered, sinking down on his knees as he squeezed your hand. "Tell me they're going to be alright."

Nina quickly set her hands above you to feel your heartbeat, but her eyes widened when she realized there was none, and there hadn't been one at least within past fifteen minutes. She slowly lowered her hands and brought her hand to her mouth.

"Nina!" Jesper pleaded. "Tell me they're going to be alright."

Nina shook her head, laying her hand on Jesper's shoulder, trying to hold back her tears. "I'm sorry, even if I managed to bring them... back... they wouldn't be Y/N anymore. They would be a vegetable."

Before Jesper could answer, Nina had burst into tears and the Slat fell silent, all of the Crows standing around your body, and some of the Dregs too. Jesper shook his head, repeating to himself that you would sit up soon enough, or he would wake up, but it didn't happen. Then it crashed through like a wave for him - you weren't coming back.

"Jesper!" Kaz's voice pierced Jesper's flashback and he glared up at him.

"What?" he snapped, and Kaz sighed. He wanted to offer Jesper comfort, Inej had persuaded him to even try as Jesper considered him as his best friend, but he had comforted someone last time when he was a child - when he hadn't yet been reborn. But he definitely didn't like seeing his usually cheery friend reminding him of himself. Kaz glanced around Jesper's room, which was also previously yours, torn papers and shards from gifts everywhere.

"You can't keep going like this," Kaz stated, trying to keep his tone comforting. "Y/N wouldn't-"

"Don't talk about them to me!" Jesper stood up from the floor, and Kaz's eyes widened for a moment, but he recomposed himself quickly.

"They wouldn't want you to throw this all away," Kaz said quietly and Jesper scoffed.

"Now when Nina, Inej or Wylan couldn't stop me, they sent Big Bad Dirtyhands after me?"

"They care about you..." he started, and then cleared his throat, "We care about you."

Jesper just stared at Kaz, eyes cold and uncaring. Kaz shivered, seeing someone like himself brewing inside Jesper.

"Get out," he growled, and Kaz knew that it was a warning. He made a mental promise to visit Jesper again later, but for now, he wouldn't accept any help. They could only pray that Jesper would accept their help when he would be ready to talk, if he'd want to talk about you at all. So he nodded and left the room, shutting the door quietly after him.

It was an unusual sight to see Jesper so in agony for multiple days in a row, throwing things he had given to you to the wall and ripping his notes and letters to you after discovering you had kept them all inside your night stand's drawer. He was completely irrational, others had tried to stop him before Kaz had finally stepped in too, trying to tell him that he'd regret breaking that all later, that they were memories of you and a way to keep you alive, but he didn't listen.

The ever cheerful Jesper was completely broken and devastated, your death had ripped him apart and nobody knew if he'd ever recover from it.
