Request (I usually only take requests on Tumblr): Hello! Could you please do Kaz Brekker + Eleanor Rigby by Cody Fry? Thank you very much!

A/N: The song sounds like reader is dead during the fic but I don't write full angst anymore because I can't take it so this might not fit the song very good, and tbh I kinda had to force another idea out and used the "lonely" in the song as the main prompt for this rather than using the whole song as I usually do. Honestly, the song just makes me think of an idea where reader has died and Kaz blames himself for not being there for them more but I can't do that because writing that would trigger me. And the idea I originally had for this kinda went away because I forgot what I was gonna write and this is a bit more fluffy than I intended, I meant to write hurt/comfort at first where Y/N feels lonely and Kaz + the Crows make them feel less lonely. 😬 Sorry.

You had always been a lonely person, and used to being alone. You weren't exactly a loner, you did crave to have friends, but you had never had the luxury for them. You weren't bitter about it, you thought it was just how your cards had been dealt.

After moving to Ketterdam, things changed for you though. You began working at the Crow Club, a nest for a notorious gang led by a young man who had been in charge since he had been a teenager. He also happened to be the most feared man in all of Ketterdam, and now he was your boss. Your work hours were long, usually ending after midnight or very early morning, but those shifts didn't bother you, it was nice to be out of your room, see people, talk to people, feel useful. The pay was fair, and then some. And you would get free food, drinks, sometimes nice customers brought you gifts... it felt good to be liked.

Kaz seemed to be happy with your work too, coming by the desk to have a drink and occasionally, you could even get a "good job, Y/N" out of him. You thought nothing of it, but one time Jesper's face when he heard Kaz say that made frown in question. Jesper looked back at you, and shook his head.

"Nothing, love. He just doesn't compliment anyone often, if ever. So it's strange to hear him say that to anyone." he explained, downing his shot. Then he looked at you again, leaning forward slightly. "Well, it's been a few months now working and living at the Slat. How you've settled? Newcomers always get spooked about fights and cheaters being thrown out, but you took it calmly enough."

You shrugged. "Pretty good, I guess. Nothing I can't handle, at least not yet."

Jesper nodded, smirking as he glanced over his shoulder. "And how you've liked the people?"

"You all make me feel like I have a family, honestly." you smiled softly at the charmer in front of you. Then your eyes automatically wandered over to Kaz, who had gone to sit at the dark corner of the Club, writing something. "I don't know what to think about boss, though. He's... uh, I just, um..."

Jesper stared at you for a moment, frowning, and then his mouth opened a little. "Oh, love, don't say you have feelings for him."

You felt your cheeks heating up furiously and immediately dropped your gaze on the glass on the table Kaz had left there, hastily polishing it. "I know! He's my boss, and on top of that, seems like a cold person, and I heard people talking that he has buried his heart somewhere so he wouldn't have an ability to feel empathy or compassion or anything. I mean, that's not possible - I think - but you can see from a mile away that he's broody and gloomy and threatening, people were calling me crazy for starting to work for him without any criminal background or skill, and they told me he could just slice my throat open just because he's annoyed with me, and... and that his hands are black, have long bird-like claws and permanently bloody, and... and it sounds insane." You finished lamely.

Jesper snorted. "Half of that isn't true, but it's true that he's a hard person to love. And I always believe in true love, but with Kaz... love could be a very long and rocky road."

"But to be fair, you and Kaz could actually have something," Nina popped up suddenly, and you automatically made her a drink. "His heart went on an overdrive a few weeks ago when Y/N was almost punched by that old drunk guy."

"What?" Jesper and you said in unison.

Nina shrugged. "He's falling for you hard, Y/N, even when he's trying to deny it. I've seen the way he looks at you, like you're the only one in the world he wants right now."

"Really?" You blinked, then smiled a little at the thought, feeling your cheeks heating up slightly again as you glanced up at Kaz. He wasn't looking at you, he was staring at the blueprints in front of him, and you wondered why he wasn't up at his office. Nina smirked again at your expression.

"I think he comes down here because he likes to keep an eye on you while he works." she half-whispered. "Because of that situation with that drunk."

You blinked at the Heartrender, and then you were popped out of the bubble as new customers came at the counter and you were serving them in the matter of seconds.

Suddenly, Dregs felt even more like a family, a home - and like you would never have to be lonely again.
