"Good morning, Tito ng friend kong siraulo!"
Sooner or later, Cyprus will find out na tinutukso ako sa kanya. Baka nga alam na niya. I can't let things become awkward between us, kaya ngayon pa lang gusto ko na siyang makabiruan. This way, I think we'll grow close enough to fool around with each other instead of being awkward.
He won't take the teasing seriously kung alam niyang palabiro talaga ako. It's a win!
"Joke lang, siyempre." I grinned and winked at him.
Ngumiwi siya bago tuluyang tumalikod at umayos ng upo. Narinig ko pa siyang bumuntong-hininga.
"Short..." he muttered under his breath, just as he started the engine.
"Huh?" Nagbaba ako ng tingin sa damit ko. Is he asking me to wear shorts under my cerulean t-shirt dress? But I'm already wearing one? OMG! Kita pa ba ang underwear ko?!
"The word that becomes shorter when you add two letters," aniya at nagsimula nang magmaneho.
Nakahinga ako nang maluwag. 'Buti naman.
All of a sudden, I remembered the condition I gave him. I giggled and quickly pushed myself near his shoulder. I tilted my head, just enough to look at his face. "Hello, Tito my friend!"
He gently pushed my forehead away, sending me back to my seat, without even looking at me.
I jokingly frowned as I sat properly. "Sungit mo talaga, my friend."
I heard him chuckle lightly, but when I looked at his face through the rearview mirror, sumeryoso na ulit siya. Nahiya pang ipakita ang kanyang handsome smile.
I grabbed my phone from my bag and leaned back. "Nga pala, I'm trying to write a friendship break-up letter and I need a fresh perspective. You seem serious and mature, kaya ikaw ang gagambalain ko... See, I want to convey my thoughts without playing the victim card or taking every blame, kasi sa totoo lang, I think pare-pareho naman kaming may kasalanan."
I'm getting teary-eyed just by looking back at our friendship, kaya bumuntong-hininga na lang ako at ngumiti. "I want to fix whatever it is that went wrong between us, but at the same time, I don't think I can trust them again. Do you think it's okay? To fix broken porcelain and leave it behind?"
"Why would you fix it if you're still going to leave it?" he asked, glancing at me through the rearview mirror.
"Peace of mind." I shrugged and smiled. "Too selfish, right?"
"No." He looked straight ahead and continued driving. "It's okay to walk away if it's for your own sake."
I pursed my lips at his words.
